Is this a scam?

Woke up this morning to an email that is or makes out is from Zwift offering me free play controllers ( just pay shipping) as a reward for hitting level 85

Strange thing is, I already have play controllers and I’m level 98!

@shooj is this a thing, or is there some way of reporting a scam?

Got this mail as well. Just go directly to the shop and type the code manually in. Don’t click on any links inside the mail. If it works, you’re good to go.

Always mouse over the links - do they look strange?

Do the same for the sender email. And contact the organisation directly via a known contact method (not from the email).

Never click any links in an unexpected email.

The sender email appears as community@zwift.com but I’m not clued up enough to see much beyond that.

I’d ave thought if such an offer was real there would have been some official coverage somewhere

Well, I tried it and it works.

Thanks for that

I just went directly to the Zwift shop and added the controllers and discount code and got the same result.

My RH controller in my current set plays up occasionally and keeps me steered over to the right out of the draft until I restart it. These will be a spare set. :+1:

At this price it was worth a punt. It certainly looks legit. Maybe there is a new design on the way and they need to shift old stock.

Anyway, it’s the price of a pint of beer these days, and you only rent that for an hour before you give it back.

I’m wondering if the sale is more to increase uptake rather than refresh.

I do like the controllers, but sometimes feel guilty using them in races or groups against non steerers as they definitely give advantages to jump clear or drop a wheel sucker.

can I get a refund then for getting them in beta when zwift used the marketing false advertising gimmick of setting the rrp at150 but now sell at 99 ?

Does anyone know if it’s a unique code per email? I’m only level 74 so don’t qualify :smiling_face_with_tear:

I have no idea what the trigger was, I’m well past the lvl 85 that was listed in the mail, so I don’t think it’s that targeted

It sounds to me like the emails have been sent to everyone who is at least level 85. I.e. Zwift decided to send out a promotion to everyone eligible, just that the wording could have perhaps been better.

Got it too, “seems” legit…
but some official response here would be appreciated

BòóX

This promo is going to go down really well with those of us who should be way higher than level 85, but are being held back and getting accelerated XP.

TBF that is a good point. Another thing where the left hand & right hand of zwift are not aligned.

Much like if you are a Level 85 in Australia, NZ, Canada or other countries where they are not available. You don’t get the offer and therefore subsidising the offer to other users in countries that can receive them.

it’s slightly weird that it’s been done on level not on length of subscription would make more sense.

hopefully a combination of both more heavily leaning on length of subscription

I’m level 84.5  Probably hit 85 tomorrow during the Epic Race.

I was able to read the blacked out code in the initial post on my iPad just by enlarging it. But i strongly suspect they are unique and user-linked, so sharing likely won’t work.

So… the playbook is;

  • run a beta which costs people $100
  • disable steering in most of the main events
  • test pd5 and cause high variation between steering and non-steering
  • give everyone cheap controllers

One of the more antagonistic approaches to users.

Unique but not user linked.

hope the op has used theirs then
