iPad Pro M1 and Saris H3 plus not pairing properly

I’m unable to connect my new H3 plus to Zwift on iPad Pro. It sees my other accessories but not the trainer in the app. It works fine with Indievelo and the Saris app so I think it’s a Zwift problem. Any tips?

Are you sure that the problem isn’t the trainer still being paired to IndieVelo or the Saris app? Because that would stop Zwift seeing it.

Good idea, wish it was that! Yes I’m sure. Tried zwift first actually, and force closed the others when trying again.

Hi @Ryan_Alexander

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I’m looking through your recent server logs and they don’t show that a Saris H3 is present and broadcasting a Bluetooth signal, much less trying to connect to Zwift. There’s a couple things it could be.

  1. Besides the Saris and Indievelo apps - might you have something like Garmin Connect installed on any device in the house (not just the iPad running the Zwift app)? Garmin Connect is a known culprit of hijacking trainer signals.

  2. I’m seeing in your server logs some Coospo devices - speed / cadence sensor and a heart rate monitor. Screenshot your pairing screen and show us what you’re seeing.

If you’re paired to a speed sensor (the type that mounts to your bike’s chainstay and/or rear wheel) - you won’t see the H3 because the Coospo speed sensor is paired already. Using a speed sensor with a supported “classic” trainer (aka ZPower) is one way use Zwift, but doesn’t change resistance as you ride, so it’s not nearly as immersive as having a controllable smart trainer that responds to gradient changes.

If this is the case for you, follow these steps

  1. Unpair from your Coospo devices.
  2. Select Power Source, not Speed Sensor.
  3. Connect to Power Source signal first, always.
  4. Resistance. There may be a lag of ~10 seconds for this signal to appear after you’ve bonded to the Power signal. This lag is expected and normal over Bluetooth.
  5. Cadence.
  6. Controls (e.g. Zwift Play controllers / Elite Sterzo Smart)
  7. Heart rate monitor (if using)
Always pair your smart trainer and peripheral devices in this order.

This is what your pairing screen should look like. is this what you’re seeing?

Hi there,

Thanks for the quick response! This is my pairing screen. No Garmin app.

Nothing is paired and the only thing I woke up is the Saris which I haven’t tried to connect with anything else yet. Also checked in iOS and there are no other bluetooth devices paired (other than a pencil).

I believe I’ve tried what you’ve suggested. I’ve also updated the Saris to the latest FW.

Anything else for me to try?

Thank you,
Ryan

Whoops, forgot to tag you @shooj . Thanks for your help with this!

I’ve run out of ideas for things to try.

Have you tried removing the Zwift app and reinstalling it? That will remove all of the prior pairing configuration data.

Hi there, pretty sure I did, yes. Did you see my other message with my method? Do you have Saris H3 plus? Do we know if others are able to successfully use it?

I don’t have that trainer. There are a lot of H3 owners using Zwift. Looking at the picture of your pairing screen I still see “speed sensor” there, which should not be present when you’re pairing a smart trainer. Since you have used one in the past, I would go ahead and remove the app again and reinstall it. Then on the initial pairing screen select “power source” when offered the choice between that and the speed sensor.

I have had an H3 for a few years but not the Plus. It reads as if your trainer is still connected to something via BT. Try:
-Power off the trainer (unplug) for several minutes.
-Power down the iPad and try on a phone or pc.

I uninstalled Zwift and reinstalled it and now it works. Thanks for your help everyone.
