A month ago, I changed from an Nvidia RTX 3080 to an AMD Radeon 9070XT. In Zwift, I noticed that my avatar and avatars around me will occasionally flicker on and off. It’s intermittent, but never happened with the RTX 3080, so it must be related to the 9070XT card. Today, I noticed a bit of pausing/stuttering with the graphics. This occurred every 10-15 seconds and lasted just an instant, but enough to notice. I don’t think I ever noticed this with the Nvidia card, so I am assuming it’s also the 9070XT. Are there any known issues with the AMD Radeon cards?
I can’t recall anyone mentioning this, but the standard first step is to upload logs to trainerdx.com and see if it’s performing acceptably. There is a Share button in trainerdx and you could share the link here if you butcher it a little like stick a space in ‘https’ so it doesn’t get blocked.
Have you tried disabling video screenshots and see if that helps?
I learned a long time ago to stick with Nvidia after a run of Sapphire graphics cards back in the day. The word from the game developer himself was “My game runs better on Nvidia”. The long term driver support from Nvidia has also been outstanding, Sapphire was useless, as soon as the Windows version changed, you lost all driver support. Never going back to AMD. Currently running the RTX5070, its just incredible at 4K-2160p at 120Hz, its faultless and when the HDR kicks in you need sunglasses. Why did you change from the 3080 ? that’s a good enough card for Zwift for most users.
Understood Carl, and I must say that I agree with you. My other hobby is Flight Sim, and right now the RX 9070 XT is better than a RTX5080. I spend way too much time as a geeky PC pilot, but that’s where the 9070XT shines. I can tolerate a few Zwift issues.
I’m trying to upload my log file. I’m getting an “Failed to establish WebSocket connection” error. I’ll try again later, but thanks for the awareness of trainerdx!
Try Ctrl + Shift + R when it hits you with that message..
Except that the RTX5070 has zero problems with Zwift in 4K-2160p at 120fps so the 9070XT shouldn’t have a single problem either.
That’s 3840 x 2160 full quality HDR so way above 1440.
I have no issues in Windows using AMD W6800 32GB or AMD W6800 Duo 64GB (that setup is 2x W6800X Duo cards, so 4 GPUs and 128GB VRAM total). They have been faultless. Aside from some 5090RTX issues most of the modern cards run fine.
This is in Flight Simulator at 6K resolution:
Using a W6800X 32GB Radeon. Runs without glitches.
I intend to put a 5090FE into that machine later down the road for Windows use (alongside the W6800X). I have seen others do the same. The W6800X is for MacOS, the 5090FE for Windows. It has a monstrous PSU and the case cooling is enormous overkill so no dramas.
Which drivers are being used? And no issues with overheating? Power cables all connected correctly? This sounds like some driver related glitch - try a re-install.
Update: I realized that I installed new drivers for the RX 9070 XT the other day. I rolled them back and the micro stuttering issue went away. I’m glad I know the cause, but new drivers creating issues is a real headache when you have some game/software that needs the latest driver to run properly.
