Game Update - June 26th, 2020

There is the Mont Ventoux…

Daren, you’re not wrong.

Albeit I have ridden precisely 0km of French roads which have featured on the tour in any year.

Chances are it’d be a once-in-a-lifetime trip, at considerable cost, requiring time off work.
I’d possibly even have to do it with a group due to logistics, maybe even a tour company?

So yes, whilst the roads are there all year around they are open to traffic and hundreds or thousands of miles away for most.
Having to join them as part of a diarised event isn’t a big deal.

HOWEVER (full disclosure) I’ll be racing Crit City in two hours.
My use of Zwift is as a training tool and motivator, not a virtual reality cycling simulator.

Bologna and Crit City have route badges?

No, no route badges for Bologna or Crit City.

If you’re happy to be a slave to the schedule, sure. But having the flexibility to just drop in and ride at a time that convenient to me is itself very valuable.

I am curious as to what the new big climb is modeled after in France?

The big climb is modelled after Mont Ventoux, one of the most iconic climbs of TdF (and cycling in general).

Thanks for the info!

Groan. Event worlds. Was really hoping these would be available for free rides. What’s the point of them being created just for a marginal portion of your user base?

Disagree. Personally I’d rather have all courses open rather than work to a schedule as events are entirely dependant on time zone and an individuals personal commitments. I also think that race or event routes should be available for practice and training. I find it very odd that I can ride a specific race ERG workout but not on the actual course.

Also making a comparison to real world routes is null and void. This is a virtual game where everyone can have access to these routes, except Zwift decide not to.

Why event only :sob:

Wondering if people would feel the same way about entertainment. Imagine having to watch your favorite Netflix show when they want you to because it’s an ‘event’.

The concept of event-only worlds is just as antiquated a notion as appointment television. Zwift subscribers should be able to ride any route they choose when they choose to.

Virtual L’Etape du Tour de France 2020 FAQ

Can I ride the same roads as the pros competing in Virtual Tour de France?
Yes. You can ride some of the same courses on the same days as the pros by participating in the Virtual L’Etape du Tour de France.

Virtual Tour de France — Discovery Rides are during the week and more casual. They also provide an opportunity to ride the other stage from the previous weekend’s race. And they’re the only way outside of Virtual L’Etape du Tour de France to ride these routes before July 25.

According to DCRainmaker’s article:

In any case, BOTH of these worlds will become part of the standard Zwift guest world rotation starting after the Virtual Tour de France. Zwift’s head of PR Communications, Chris Snook, confirmed this earlier today saying “these worlds will join the regular guest world rotation soon after the Tour de France”.

Of course, that does mean two more worlds to be added into the rotation, so for anyone who just chooses from the day’s available worlds, they’re not really freely available.

Just create your own Meetup and invite one other follower (and they don’t have to show up). Hey presto, you’re riding on a non-guest world.

Yes, I know; but it’s not the same thing at all. First, it’s a workaround. Like the world hack. It’s possible, but it shouldn’t be necessary.

Second, you’re less likely to be riding with other people. Most people select Watopia and the guest worlds. So choosing an off-calendar world is a more isolated experience. Some people want that, I prefer more people to chase.

Ultimately, I dream of a day when everything is just one world with all the roads.

This was on Instagram, not read most of the above as it looks like a whole load of head wobbling.

I guess everybody wants it all now?!
:joy::joy::joy:

No idea how you guys cope IRL when things happen at a certain time?

Group ride Sunday at 0900? No Way!
Football match at 1400? Disgusting.
Boxing at 0100 due to time difference? Refuse and complain about it!
Christmas only once per year? Doesn’t suit my schedule and clashes with my wife’s birthday move it to September.

Look, I’m joking but surely people see the irony in complaining about something we didn’t even know existed 14 days ago not being available on demand?

So much negativity.

Bet you never complain about anything? :joy::joy:
