Game Update 1.29 [September 2022]

I generally don’t mind the other game sounds, but yeah, I think I’m going to have to turn them all off rather than keep hearing that incessant beeping! Thanks for reminding me of that menu option at least. -T

Believe me when I tell you I’ve made the case for a Gentlemanly Pile of Hats to be added to Zwift on many occasions. At this stage I’m my own meme.

I’m dead.

So I went from about 790,000 XP to 500,000 in the blink of an eye. Now I have to work my way back up in XPs to 750,000 to be at level 60 when I was already there! I earned those XPs. Zwift is giving all of us over 500,000 double XP points. Fantastic?! So it’s 250,000XP to get to level 60 which comes out to 6,250 km of riding. When Zwift went from level 25 to 50 the multiplier was several times the 2X they are giving now. I’m very disappointed in their decision. It’s going to take 9+ months of riding to get back to an XP level I was already at.

Maybe just me - but the pace partners were all mixed up in order. Definitely not the 2 I’ve recently ridden with on the left, and the 1.8 - 2.6 group just all jumbled up.

Plus please can we get that chance to nominal rather than instantaneous power in the next update …

I think it is actually 750,000 to get from 50 to 60 and you only get double back to the amount you had not all the way to 60.

Sorry - it is 750,000 in total, you were correct

I still can’t decide if I should be happy or worried.

I’ve seen the same thing, but only at some of the intersections.

Ride On Bombs doesn’t work in group rides

After nearly 2 years of being stuck at Level 50, I’m loving that my XP bar is filling up again. And with the new font, it’s really refreshed Zwift.

I don’t care that my XP has gone back to 500,000. If it didn’t and Zwift just applied the levels accordingly, I’d be Level 60 in 3 weeks, and my XP bar would be greyed out again, and back to stagnation. Where would the fun be in that?

But, maybe they should have done this for all the people upset about losing their XP’s.

Two options, by way of an opt-in:

  1. unlock L50-L60 the way they’re doing it.
  2. keep all your accumulated XP, and stay at L50, but allow option 1 to be selected at any time.

I bet almost everyone would choose option 1

I think I’m mostly in the camp that thinks a hard level cap on XP is fine. What Zwift are doing is more than any MMORPG I know of does.

Certainly in World of Warcraft you can hit the level cap the day or week a new expansion come out, then get no more XP for the next two years. When a new expac comes out you’re starting at the same XP of everyone else, whether they’ve been at level cap for 2 years or 2 days - and earning at the same rate.

Admittedly, it’s not a like for like comparison, but it’s not too disimmilar. In WoW for example you won’t get any XP at level cap, but you can still chase achievements and there’s gear progression. In Zwift you can still get badges and earn drops to spend - i.e. gear acquisition, and in some cases progression.

I guess the difference here is that Zwift did let the XP build up just to wipe them out.
It is kind of the worst of both worlds.

Yeah, I get that. At least last time the accelerator was 8x IIRC, so regaining the XP was fast.

and the distances between levels were smaller.

I think they’ve kind of shot themselves in the foot for levels after 60 if there are to be any. if they keep getting further apart it is going to be a nightmare to get from one to the next.

I think 51 to 100 should have been spaced the same as 1 to 50 - would be nice to tick a few off quickly before they got harder again. and then it is future proofed for levels going forward.

I disagree with this - although am sympathetic to your endless plight.

I think that the xp growth should continue to increase exponentially - it should be hard to get to the higher levels!

I also agree with James. It SHOULD be super hard to progress levels past 50, giving a greater sense of self achievement.

I agree with that up to a point - but if there’s greater effort to attain each higher level, the rewards should also be greater/more flashy etc.

the problem with this is that as you get further into the levels it is going to get ridiculous to get from one to the next.
To get to 71 from 70 will take 2,000 miles
To get to 81 from 80 will take 2,666 miles
To get to 151 from 150 will take 7,333 miles

and so on
