Received an email from Zwift today. The new 1.81.2 software update released today apparently addresses the issue. Not ridden yet but started Zwift on my PC and ran the ‘Just Watch’ option. Programme crashed and became unresponsive within 20 minutes.
The 1.81 rollout has not been completed yet. Can you double check if you are on 1.81.2? Some people are still waiting for the update.
Yes, I’ve updated to 1.81.2.
I’m still waiting for the update to reach my computer.
In my case I’ve been experiencing very similar behavior, crashes caused by memory leak, but I thought it was linked specifically to the Alpe do Zwift route, so I documented it in a different thread:
https://forums.zwift.com/t/memory-leak-in-alpe-du-zwift-on-windows/581284/5
Looking forward to check the update.
Hi @Rob_Williams_Cantabr, thank you for reporting this. The team is currently looking into your report.
Given the generalized nature of the failure mode (i.e. freeze/crash), there can be multiple contributing factors and this may be separate from the improvements in 1.81.2 – regardless, we continue to actively work on these types of issues as our highest priority.
Hi @Simon_Foley, we completely agree. Our goal is that Zwift is reliable on all devices meeting the minimum hardware requirements (which for Windows is 8 GB of RAM, regardless of integrated/discrete GPUs) and we are actively prioritizing any issues related to that with high priority.
My zwift installation got updated to version 1.81.2 this afternoon. I did the tdz long stage 1 (over 1h duration) and for me it looks promising
The virtual memory utilization stayed all the time stable under the 2.4GB mark, which is what I used to see before
Yesterday with the previous version on the shorter stage 1 (20 minutes ride) the virtual memory utilization was well over 8GB if I’m not wrong.
I have been experiencing the same problem as a lot of other folks. Zwift started crashing for me about three weeks ago. My symptoms are flashing bright lights across the landscape when I am riding. Also, if I am on a group ride, the name badges of the riders near me flash an array of weird graphics before disappearing.
Earlier this week I uninstalled the application and reinstalled it. That worked for one ride and then the problem started again.
After reading through this thread, I started Zwift and checked the virtual memory. My avatar was not moving and the memory was over 2.8 MB. The 1.81.2 update has not resolved the problem.
I am using a brand new laptop that has 16 GB of RAM. That should be more than enough to support the demands of Zwift.
I look forward to this issue being resolved quickly.
Hello @David_Nimick9919 , welcome to Zwift Forums! I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with Zwift freezing or crashing. However, your experience does not appear to be the same issue affecting other Zwifters in this thread.
From what I can see in your recent activity, it looks like you’ve had issues running Zwift on a PC with an ARM CPU (presumably a Microsoft Surface device). I’m afraid that Zwift does not currently support this type of PC architecture. Our Supported Devices to Run Zwift article has more details on what setups Zwift does support.
Hi Rowdy
I am not sure how you inferred I am using a Microsoft Surface. In fact, I am using a brand-new HP Omnibook X 14 laptop. Below are the specs, based on the computer requirements listed on the Zwift website.
OS - Windows 11 64-bit
CPU - Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100 (3.42 GHz)
Installed RAM - 16 GB
GPU - Integrated, Qualcomm Adreno GPU
Hard Drive - 1TB
Bluetooth 5.3
I bought the laptop last November and was able to use Zwift without any problems up until three weeks ago. I have not installed anything on the laptop since I set it up after buying it. I would appreciate a little more effort to help me resolve this problem rather than just telling me that my PC is not supported. If that were true, I would of had problems in November.
Regards
David
That’s the same problem. You are using an ARM based system that is not supported by Zwift. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t, but you’re on your own because they don’t test on that hardware or have a native release for your hardware. There are some existing topics about this and results are generally very bad.
Game Version 1.81.2…
I “watched” Zwift yesterday for 6 hours. Task manager indicated Memory usage of Zwift never exceeded 3GB. I could bounce around watching many different riders everywhere in Watopia.
NO CRASH at all
When my cold has gone again and I can do a ride for myself I am hoping all goes well.
For reference here is my setup:
Lenovo ThinkCentre M75q Gen 2 11JJ - Mini - Ryzen 3 Pro 4350GE
OS: Windows 11 Pro (latest Version 24H2)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 Pro 4350GE / 3.5 GHz (at least better than Minimum)
RAM: 16GB Memory (double Minimum)
GPU: integrated Radeon Vega 6 (About 3x faster than AMDR5 over all)
HD: 256GB SSD (15% full) (way over Minimum)
BT: Bluetooth V5.0 (better than required)
Hey im using windows pc and android phone on companion my pc still crashes after 1:30 ir 1:40 into a ride. I have updated. Also have un installed and re installed the graphics drivers but after a couple rides between 1:30 and 2 hrs it blinks loses pixels and then black screen. Any news in fixes??
The patch also solved my problem.
I use an AMD 4300U laptop, with 8 gigs of ram and integrated graphics.
So far everything seems fine after the update. Thank you!
Hi @Mike_Hollowniczky_BP, thank you for the report. Do you happen to know roughly what was the date and time of the last time you observed this issue? That will help us look into it a bit better.
Friday jan 10 also I saw a message about it from Llama it said to turn off video capture I also turned off screen shake in settings this seems to have worked as I did a 4 hr ride with no problems yesterday
Hello.
I have a (maybe) related issue - zwift on my PC (Radeon RX550, Win 10) was working fine about a month ago, than I didn’t use it for about a month, and today it just refused to work - after launching it I see only a black screen with a background music (even no GUI/HUD, as was described in some similar issues). The app version is 1.81.2, also I tried to reinstall it (actually a couple of times even with some manual cleanup of residual files, registry entries, etc.). The problem appears both in full screen and window mode. Nothing was changed in a hardware configuration during that period. GPU driver seems to be the latest one. Is there something that I can try to fix/investigate that issue?
Hi @Anton_Moiseenko, sorry to hear about this issue. It sounds like you have been very thorough in your troubleshooting already, thank you for that.
As described, it does sound like a fundamentally different issue than the crashes that were resolved in 1.81.2, and there’s a chance this could be some form of hardware failure.
Do you have any other 3D games/software that you could try to see if the issue is limited to Zwift? We’ll look into your logs as well.
Hi @evan-zwift, thanks for your reply.
Fortunately, while trying to find some other 3D software to test, I just realised that I didn’t try to check the GPU settings. I was (and even now I am) pretty sure that I didn’t change any GPU settings since everything was working, but after just resetting to the default GPU profile it works fine again.
