I just had my Kickr Core delivered. I didn’t realize Zwift doesn’t have a family plan. Now looking at alternatives. What is everyone else doing? Not going to go with Zwift for me and my 2 kids.
Search “zwift alternatives” on Google / YouTube
Most of them are not very good but if price rules then perhaps one of those will do. You could also cycle through all the free trials and pay nothing for months.
This month I’m “celebrating” my 1 year of Rouvy subscription. I’ve switched after 4 years of Zwift because the family plan was never going to be a thing. At that time there wasn’t even an annual plan, also there was no increase in price. Rouvy has the Duo plan and I think with the Blackfriday promo discount I saved about 250-300€. Its not ideal… Not many people on this platform, not as much fun. I’m still interested in switching back to Zwift, but not until there is no family plan.
Welcome back!
I cancelled my subscription two years ago because both 16+ kids wanted to use it and I wasn’t willing to pay 3x full price. Rouvy doesn’t have as big a community now, but maybe the Zwift price increase will help push people over to it. In the end the big winner in all of this may be Rouvy.
Family plan would be great, Me, my wife and my kids want to use zwift but the plan cost individually is too high. Zwift Ride plus a family plan would be a top notch combo. I think it would be really popular.
New on Zwift. Bought the Zwift Ride and enjoying it. However, extremely disappointed that there is no family subscription. My wife and daughter also want to ride. If this is not fixed very soon, I will be selling the Ride and find another solution.
Don’t hold your breath. They’ve never had a family plan. There was one rumoured when they announced the price rise, but it has never happened. Not really sure why.
look how old this thread is… it isn’t happening anytime soon.
After talking my wife out of a Peloton, we just dropped a huge chunk of change on Zwift Ride. Now I feel a fool having not looked into all this fine print.
We were disappointed to find out there wasn’t a free year subscription like with buying a kicker core separately. I’m willing to accept responsibility there. Secondly, it came with the old Zwift 1.0 hub but was advertised with the 2.0. But the worse is the news my wife can’t use it without another account.
To see how old this thread is just another stick on the fire of late-stage capitalism working-class depression.
The Zwift frame is created with sharing in mind. However, a Zwift account does not support multiple users. This feels a bit counterintuitive?
I’m currently considering buying a new bike purely for the indoor trainer or the Zwift frame. The first option is almost twice as cheap while the latter has an unique selling point of being able to share the bike within an household. Hence, I could incur the additional costs to convince my girlfriend to start biking. However, I now figured she would have to pay for her own account which kinda tells me not to convince her to start biking indoor and therefore not buying the Zwift frame.
Is it just me who thinks like this?
Zwift decided to make some really nice gear: THE SMART BIKE. Great job. This should be a first step to make a lot of money on a long term. The smart bike is designed for multiple users - that’s how you’re promoting it. Now is also a perfect time to get something from it (read: more members). You can do this with Family plan membership. Most of us (Zwift users) already have some smart trainers (or indoor bikes) - there is almost no need to buy new one. If someone needs new trainer why should anyone buys Zwifts smart bike or just an upgrade for an existing WAHOO trainer? Anyone who decided for it, would be locked on ZWIFT APP. This is a big advantage for ZWIFT and also big disadvantage for user, since it’s not possigle to use it with other APPs. My big business recommendation would be: You have a smart bike. Make ASAP a family plan membership (different accounts merged under one subscription) and try to target existing users with family members. I’m sure production line will be full and there would be a lot of new members ASAP. From the membership income perspective it will be some negative months (families with 2 accounts), but in less than a year there will be a big explosion of income.
I personaly would buy your smart bike ASAP if there would be a family membership available (have wife and 3 kids pasionately waiting to ride it - for now, smart trainer is just for me and my bike). If I decided to buy a zwift smart bike then expectation to use it from other family members would be even bigger - great, but not under my account.
Can only agree here. A choice for a profile change would be great. I wouldn´t mind paying a few bucks extra for a family account or something like that if the options of profile swapping.
As the other user wrote above here. With the Zwift bike the whole family can now, relatively easy, ride on the same bike.
Ride On!
I don’t care a lot about whether you decide to re-enable creation of child accounts or make it possible to create a family plan, but at least you need to do one of these.
Because now, some people are lucky they created child accounts before you closed it, while others were unlucky and have their 20kg kid cycle on their parent’s 70kg account and that is a horrible experience for the kid…
In my family we’re lucky to have two child accounts, but other families were unlucky.
And I still have one child without an account (her bike is too small for the trainer now anyway, but in a couple of years she would have to go pretty slow on her 4 year older sister’s account…unless Zwift manages to re-enable creation of child accounts).
This is very important, if you wish to stop the slow bleeding of users to MyWhoosh, Indievelo or Rouvy.
I’ve recently cancelled my Zwift subscription due to the lack of a family discount. I’m puzzled by this policy, especially considering the ease of implementing a restriction to one active account at a time.
As a family with a young child, it’s financially challenging to afford individual memberships. Sharing a single profile with my 11 year old daughter isn’t a viable solution, and the prospect of additional family members wanting to use Zwift further complicates matters.
I urge you to reconsider your current policy and introduce a family-friendly pricing option.
I have given Zwift several months of trial and we considered the new Zwift Frame as an option for the household bike. But with no family plan, we are moving to Rouvy and cancelling Zwift.
The social aspects of Zwift are at the bottom of the list of things we care about, and because of that the real world routes of Rouvy, and dual profile plan that’s the same price as a single account on Zwift make it a no brainer.
Just adding my comments, not that Zwift seem to care, after several years and many miles on Zwift, I am not planning to renew, the annual cost has gone up by 40% from last year, and with 2 adults in the house hold using Zwift, and issues with re-enabling child accounts I am losing faith in Zwift ever looking at household or family options.
Yes the alternatives are not quite as polished but when the alternatives mean a saving of nearly £250 a year, you have to look at some of the new options and ask it they are really worth the etc cost.
Agreed. My girlfriend would like to casually train in the off season and we won’t pay a full membership for her. So this might cause us both to change platforms.
