If the same thing happened to me it wouldn’t work again.
I updated my tablet with newest version of Zwift as I haven’t used it for riding in awhile,… only for ZCA. Steering worked with a first attempt, then exited and retried and it worked again. So I can confirm it IS a Win 11/Zwift issue from patch 1.73 for me, so I guess I am stuck using my tablet until a fix is released.
Thanks for that update. I’ll try with my phone or iPad and see if I can hook them up to a monitor.
It is surprising how much more steering increases my engagement with the platform.
Lots of products will let you do that. If you have a Lightning connector on the device I suggest the Apple Digital AV adapter. If it’s a USB-C device then almost any of the adapters will work even the cheap ones. Get one that lets you charge the device while using it. Not all Android phones support this (eg, Samsung requires an S series phone).
I am able to Chromecast the Android phone to the TV. I can confirm that the Sterzo works fine with this approach, although it looks pretty lo-fi. Pairing all the devices through the Zwift Companion app running on Android is also working, and I’ll try to keep with that approach until Zwift fixes the Windows 11 connection problem. My main concern is having all of these Wi-Fi/Bluetooth signals zipping about and getting dropouts. Bluetooth dropouts plagued me about a year ago, but they seem to have improved - whether from Zwift/Windows/device drivers or just circumstance. I’m also using a Zwift Click, so the trainer has to be on Bluetooth for that to work. The only thing on Ant+ is the HRM.
With the new zwift update there is now for me there is a patch or help with the Sterzo steering and that is when you do a ride or race on the fly and by pedaling you go to the MENU tab and you can synchronize the steering without the doll stop at O watts
Hello all,
I’ve finally been able to experience this on some personal/internal devices. It still seems to be intermittent, but it’s an issue we’re working to address. Please feel free to update this thread and tag me if you start encountering this in every activity or bump into a reliable workaround. I will also comment with any updates I find.
Thanks for the reply,
The only workaround I have found is using my Android tablet, but even with this my HRM only partially works.
This morning I deleted the knowndevices file once again on my Win 11 laptop, and was able to complete a RP ride test, then ported over to a TOW stage 3 from the RP ride and had steering both times. I am at a point where I am not sure what works and what doesn’t now with Win11, but I do know its a Win 11/Zwift issue.
I will do more testing tomorrow
Did the 1.77 patch, and it worked for two test rides. I thought it was in the clear, but then it didn’t work when I went in for a series of actual rides. I switched over to pairing through the companion app, which worked for about an hour and a half, and then the signal totally failed and I had to switch back to pairing through the computer without steering.
Just an update, worked for around 3 rides and thought I was in the clear, then yesterday didn’t work.
I’ve given up on using the Companion app approach. I did another ride where everything worked for about an hour and 15 minutes, and then all the Bluetooth connections died - just before the sprint to the finish line.
Any progress on fixing the Sterzo problem?
The Companion app losing Bluetooth connections after an hour+ is also a problem.
The same problem as people mentioned. Elite Sterzo Smart works only with connection through companion app. When it is connected to the laptop (Windows 11) I see indicator, but I can’t steer.
Hello all,
We’ve managed to make some progress on this issue at HQ. In short, the issue seems to be mix of both internal and external issues, however some changes in the next full version update (1.79.0) may address the negative experience.
We’ve been able to reproduce the issue by manually disconnecting a Sterzo from any PC (or Mac) and quickly reconnecting it. Depending on your battery level, and the quality of the hardware within your Sterzo’s battery compartment, your Sterzo may lose power/connection when it is jostled during normal use. (Aside from battery/power issues, the Sterzo can still lose connection due to nearby interference like any bluetooth device). In almost all cases, devices will quickly reconnect, but in some cases, data transfer is not resumed after the reconnect. We think this explains why the issue is overall not being widely reported by Sterzo owners and why folks in this thread are experiencing it intermittently.
Zwift developers will work to make it so that steering input data resumes after the reconnect. However, as a possible workaround/method to lower the likelihood of this happening, I recommend double checking the following:
- your batteries are relatively fresh (50-100% charge)
- your battery compartment is holding your batteries snugly (per manufacturer design)
- your nearby surroundings limit the amount of interference via extraneous bluetooth/wifi/radio signals
Please feel free to let me know if you experience any changes. I’ll be especially happy to help gather input once we see how things are going in 1.79.0.
Thanks for the update, but why does it work when you pair through ZCA and not Win 11? For myself, the issue didn’t start until 1.76 update.
I’m guessing that the data transfer not resuming is a combo of something happening on the Sterzo, but then also how Win11 handles the incident. And that Comp App and/or other devices don’t handle the interruption the same way.
Ill just add my experience here.
I have the same Win 11 issue. I can steer if I connect with the companion app but no steering directly with the PC.
Batteries are brand new.
Batteries seem secure.
I ran an spectrum scan on my AP and there wasn’t much signal in the 2.4GHz range. General connectivity of other bluetooth and ANT devices are stable.
Perhaps coincidentally I had an issue in Sept with having to remove and reconnect several bluetooth devices after a Windows update to get them to work So there has possibly been an update to the bluetooth stack…
Anyway I’m happy to generate any logs that might help.
After the release 1.78 the steering works for me. At least for now.
Hopefully it lasts,… it didn’t work for me after update. But as Rowdy posted above, hopefully a fix in release 1.79
Update: I have had steering work right out of the gate for my last three rides. No other data to report, just that
Update:
2 rides so far this morning and have steering, 3rd ride in 10min for another test. I haven’t ridden since last week.
BUT I have no consistent HRM @Rowdy It kicks out every few seconds and is now doing what ZCA was doing. TOW stage 4 towards the end it kicked out and wouldn’t reconnect. Had to reset my HRM and even then Zwift wouldn’t recognize it until after a few minutes.
