Elite Rizer & Non-Elite Trainer

Has anyone be able to make properly work the Elite Rizer with a non-Elite trainer?

I just got one via Amazon to test with my Kickr.v5, and so far, it’s all over the place… not even close to the Wahoo Climb -above all, during downhills, it doesn’t work at all…

A bit disappointed because, Elite classified as “somewhat” compatible with Kickr.

I run a rizer with a kickr v5
No issues at all, runs nice. Little lag on rollers, but no issue for me.

Make sure it’s calibrated, I had to adjust rizer 0% level because out of the box the bike was tilted at -2%

Thanks for the reply, Kevin!

The thing is really well made, so I know if I can make it work, it will run forever. I did calibrate the “zero” position. In “manual” the App tilt is spot on against a digital level I tested against in all levels; however, in “Simulation” mode, it’s all over the place (not even close), and it never goes below +1.5% (leave alone negative: not matter of the decline).

Anyway, if it’s working for you, I’ll wait for the customer support to reply back to me. I was about to send it back to Amazon  but probably I got a defective unit…

I use mine with a Neo and i feel it’s pretty accurate although like you i don’t believe that when it’s descending it goes down as far as it should.

It’s hard to say though. I think partly is the false belief that a 2-3% gradient is going to make a big difference to the lift of the front wheel.

People tend to over estimate how high the front must go.

My wheelbase (center front to center rear) is 999mm, so 1meter.
This means that a 5% gradient = 5cm rise of the front, not more.

We al know 5cm is notvthat much

“People tend to over estimate how high the front must go…”

Kevin, I am way too picky to estimate anything LOL

I properly measured the wheelbase, and electronically measured the tilt at the frame. Manually, the tilt shown in the App is 100% spot on to the tilt shown by my electronic level at the frame…

However, in Simulation mode the tilt is nonsense… not even close to the Kickr Climb behavior… just random nonsense up and down with no pattern I can identify… and never goes below 1.5%/2.0% even during -7%/-9% descents…

Most probably a defective unit or a setting that’s not compatible with my setup…

“It’s hard to say though. I think partly is the false belief that a 2-3% gradient is going to make a big difference to the lift of the front wheel…”

Key Stuart, when you look at the Rizer App while in Simulation mode: does it show negative tilt during the descents?

Thanks,

To be honest I’ve never used the Rizer app other than to set up the Rizer.
I’ll have a play.

Did you manage to configure the rizer correctly? The same thing happens to me, if zwift marks -7 in the rizer application it may only be at -1 :frowning:

I did everything i could for about 10 days -even contacted Elite customer service (which was awful), and it didn’t work for me, so i sent it back defeated lol

OK, thanks for answering !!

I use an Elite Riser with a Kick r (2017) it responds as I would expect 17% up on radio tower and max - negative on the decent.

All good here.

Ismael/Shaun, btw… I am 100% sure it wasn’t a setting issue (I tested them all). Actually, back them, I thought I got a failed unit. The package that came from Amazon seemed to have been opened before. That’s why I contacted Elite costumer service for help.

At the end, my biggest annoyance was with Elite awful customer service (24hr lead-time to replay e-mails -even if you reply within seconds of their e-mail) and they don’t have on-phone customer support for a $1k item.
I could have gotten another unite via Amazon, but I just didn’t want to deal with Elite any longer, so I went for a complete refund.

I have gotten it to work, today I was on zwift at -7 and rizer did not even go below 0 :frowning: I have modified the profile in elite rizer app, bike weight to 2 kilos and my weight to 20 kilos and now it works perfectly, the changes are fast and precise, it looks like a roller coaster

Glad you made it work! The engineering behind the Rizer is far superior to the Climb, so if it works, it should work for a long time…
Now, something is screwed up with the app controlling the Rizer because it shouldn’t be needed to set body weight @ 20kg! It makes no send… I did quite a bit of tinkering with all the variables, but it didn’t occur to me to play with body weight, oh well…

Thanks so much Ismael, I set mine to 30kg (the min it would let me) and bike to 2, now it’s way more responsive. Also found that Zwift had set my difficulty back to 50%, so I changed that to 100% and now its fun again!

I have Rizer and Tacx Neo 1. It works well when in a race or free ride, but when ERG is on in workout mode, it barely moves.
Has anyone figured that out?

Thank you.

In ERG mode Zwift doesn’t use the road gradient, so you don’t feel resistance changes due to the gradient and similarly the Rizer won’t be told that there’s any gradient.

Anyway to change/fix that?

I think you can create custom workouts where you feel the terrain. Someone else may be able to advise.

Or you can simply do free rides and then you’ll feel gradients and have the Rizer move.
