Elite Rizer with Wahoo Kickr v6

I purchased a Wahoo Kickr v6 with Zwift Click during the after Christmas sale. Prior to purchasing the Kickr, I was using the Elite Justo (v1) with the Elite Rizer. Before I purchased the Kickr, I thought I did enough perusing of the internet to determine that the Rizer should work with the Kickr.

Initially, it did seem to work (although not perfectly), but then one day it went very wrong and I haven’t been able to solve it. Now, the Rizer goes down on level ground and it will only go up on steep climbs. Even when it goes up, it doesn’t match the grade, it’s always lower and not 50%. – it’s more like 25% of the uphill grade. I know what grade the Rizer is producing because I started opening the Elite Rizer App while trying to debug the Rizer and it shows the grade during simulation.

To-date I have tried (either solo or in combination):

  1. Completely resetting the Rizer and Rider Profile using the Rizer App
  2. Wifi and Bluetooth connections on the Kickr (ANT+ doesn’t allow virtual shifting)
  3. Double-checking firmware updates on the Rizer and Kickr
  4. Setting Zwift to 100% and 50% Trainer Difficulty
  5. Connecting and disconnecting the Rizer from Zwift Controls under Connections in the game
  6. Connecting all devices through my Lenovo Idea Tab Pro (Android) tablet
  7. Running the game on my tablet
  8. And probably some other things that I can’t remember

No matter what I do, I get the behavior described above. When I use the Rizer App and set the device to Manual (vs Simulation) the Rizer immediately sets itself to 0.0% elevation. Also, for reference, I used the Elite Justo for about 15,000 miles and I have a total of about 34,400 miles on Zwift.

When I first started using the Kickr v6 with Zwift Click, it was mostly working. I didn’t know about the 50% Trainer Difficulty issue so I wasn’t getting full elevation. I can’t remember if it stopped working after a game update, but after a lot of research and testing, I think I’m down to that, an update caused the problem.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem with their Rizer regardless of which trainer their using? Thanks!

Rizer have never been working correctly with anything else than Elite trainers. With other trainers it just estimates the gradient based on power and speed (or something like that). So it’s going to be all over the place unless you just pedal extremely smooth. Doing a sprint will usually make the Rizer go up even though you are on a complete flat road. From my perspective using a Rizer with anything other than an Elite trainer is pointless for gradient simulation.
