Piotr, I’ve just completed my first FTP test on my new Direto. It has come in at 259w which is a fair bit lower than the 295w my Tacx vortex was suggesting.
Having said that I was expecting it to be nearer the 230w mark after my first couple of rides on the Direto.
I would also agree with you that the pedalling mechanic is totally different to a wheel on trainer and takes some getting used to. I’m thinking that I have already seen some improvement in my technique since last week, hoping there is more to come.
I’ve also recently bought the Directo XR and immediately can see a power drop from my old unit which was a Tacx Flux. I’m pedalling just as hard as previously and down about 30w on average at best guess. I don’t have a power meter to really test this out but have noticed that the pedalling technique does have an affect on power readings.
For me the power reads higher when I continuously pull up on the pedal stroke, which is an odd feeling as I don’t always do this on the road (unless when I’m climbing). Trying to push down harder on the downstroke didn’t seem to help any.
I’m assuming this is specific to this unit or maybe it’s like this with all Elite direct drive trainers, not sure really, but it wasn’t like this with the Flux.
