Device Pairing Updates in Zwift [September 2026]

Hi Zwifters,

Starting with Zwift game version 1.121, we’re making it quicker to get moving - less time pairing, more time riding or running!

After your initial device setup, Background Pairing will be enabled by default. When your setup is eligible, Zwift will take you directly to the Home screen while reconnecting your saved devices in the background. If you prefer the classic pairing experience, you can disable Background Pairing at any time.

This is especially helpful for Zwifters with a simple, consistent setup who use the same trainer or running hardware for each session.

When will Zwift skip the Pairing screen?

Background Pairing works with both cycling and running hardware. Zwift may skip the Pairing screen when Background Pairing is enabled and:

  • Cycling was your last selected sport and you have a saved Power Source or Speed Sensor.

  • Running was your last selected sport and you have a saved Run Speed device.

*Few exceptions apply. See our support article for more information.

Check your connections from the Home screen

While Zwift searches for your saved devices, a notification will appear in the lower-right corner of the Home screen will show your connection progress.

step1

step2
If Zwift doesn’t find every saved device during the initial connection period, you’ll see a notification letting you know some equipment was not found. Zwift will continue searching in the background, so make sure your devices are powered on, awake, and ready to connect.
step4

If you try to begin an activity before all your devices have connected, Zwift will let you know and give you the option to review your setup.

Select the connection notification using a mouse or touchscreen to open the Pairing screen. The notification can’t be selected using Zwift controllers or a TV remote, so use the Pairing icon instead.

We’ll begin removing devices from your saved device history if they haven’t been used for your past three rides.

Open the Pairing screen at any time

A new Pairing icon is available in the navigation bar at the top of the Home screen. Select it whenever you want to check your connections, pair a different device, switch setups, or troubleshoot a device.

Manage Your Pairing Options

The Paired Devices screen now includes a Pairing Options menu with two settings:

  • Enable Background Pairing: Automatically reconnects your saved devices and allows Zwift to skip the Pairing screen when your setup is eligible.

  • Enable Companion Bridging: Allows you to use the Zwift Companion app as your connection method. Learn more in Using the Zwift Companion App as a Bridge.

ANT+ users:

There is a known issue in game version 1.122 where you will have to manually pair your ANT devices. This will be addressed in the next game release cycle.

The pairing screen was where I would switch between running and riding.
If I ran yesterday and want to ride today, it was easy to switch and pair the different sensors.
I assume that now I would have to click my profile picture, and switch to ride.
Does that also automatically trigger the background pairing?

You’ll still want to get to the Pairing Screen to switch from run to ride or vice versa. You can also Switch To Running from here:

When you switch sports, we’ll clear saved device history right away. You should manually pair as you were doing previously.

I’m not sure when this started, but my KICKR SHIFT shows a battery icon in the controls pairing section.

Flagging this for another smart bike with wired shifters too. I’m on a beta firmware so I won’t name it… I’m commenting as it appears to be impacting more than just the Shift.

My Bluetooth setup I have to pair my trainer power meter, then pair my controllable trainer, then ‘forget’ the trainer power so I can pair my power pedals. If I connect the power pedals first the controllable trainer is never discoverable. I know others have this issue, has it been looked at in this release?

Same for me. Kicr bike.

Nice, now please show the battery levels of hr/pm/cadence sensors too. I see in the log zwift actually records them

I see this with the click v2 briefly before the connection has been established but then it shows a full battery

Battery life indicator showing for controllers not powered by a battery is a known bug that we’re working on. Thanks for flagging that up.

Hi @Robin_Eyre
First pairing the trainer as Power source is important for all your devices to bond correctly. Please see this section of the Connecting Your Devices For Cycling support article

Those using dual power recording may want to continue manually pairing your devices.

Why not pair the trainer as 2nd power in the background! This is driving me crazy and just makes me not zwift!

Hopefully dual recording is implemented soon and this process gets cleaned up.

Incredibly zwift already dual records or at least monitors because I can see in my logs warnings when they deviate a lot (as well as battery status of my hr monitor and pm!)
