Crash after update: "Unexpected Error" on Mac and reinstall didn't solve

MacBook Pro
Big Sur version 11.5
Case sensitive file system

@shooj Please do what u can to get this sorted

Thanks

Seems like it’s not high priority for them to fix it :expressionless:

At this point, I give up. It’s been nearly 3 weeks with no fix or ETA in sight.

I permanently cancelled my Zwift subscription and did a credit card chargeback for the Zwift subscription for the month of July. My credit card company agreed that this is completely unacceptable, immediately credited me for the subscription, and will follow up with Zwift to reclaim their money.

I encourage everyone else to do the same. I think loss of something tangible (revenue) is the only way to make Zwift take any action. It’s clear to me that their users (paying customers) are not a priority.

Hey all - I’m on a call discussing this bug, which is still under investigation. Let me assure you it is not a cut and dried fix as some have suggested in this thread.

I’ll update this thread as we root out the cause and stomp this bug.

same issue here, windows10…

Just have Julius change his filesystem to case sensitive and then it will be fixed. lol

Mac with a case-sensitive filesystem.

Documents/Zwift/Log.txt:

[19:17:11] Loading WAD file ‘assets/global.wad’ with file.^M
[19:17:11] Unable to open WAD file “assets/environment/ground/textures.wad”.^M
[19:17:11] ERROR: Could not load wad file: assets/environment/ground/textures.wad^M

File system on the Mac:

➜ assets pwd
/Users/xxxr/Library/Application Support/Zwift/assets
➜ assets ls
Bikes Environment Humans UI Workouts Worlds fonts global.wad

It sure looks like the subdirectories under Zwift/assets are mixed-case. The above log looks like it’s using a lower case “environment” subdirectory.

Should take a rookie programmer about 15min to resolve this issue. I see from this thread that multiple people have quit Zwift over this problem. The clocking is ticking before I become and ex-Zwifter.

Much as I don’t want to hack around the Zwift file systems, wonder if making the directories lower case will help (and no, changing the file system to case-insensitive isn’t going to happen).

Well look at that! Renamed Environment/Ground to environment/ground and the textures.wad file loaded. Of course the roadblock was hit because there are other files that are failing to load. The technical term for this is “wack-a-mole”.

[23:09:20] Loading WAD file ‘assets/global.wad’ with file.^M
[23:09:20] Loading WAD file ‘assets/environment/ground/textures.wad’ with file.^M
[23:09:20] Loading WAD file ‘assets/UI/WhiteOrangeTheme/WhiteOrangeTheme.wad’ with file.^M

Really - take a look at this:
textures path is all lower case (environment subdirectory is lower case)
GrassTextures is mixed case (Environment subdirectory is mixed case)

Didn’t I say that a rookie programmer would take 15 minutes to resolve this. That’s still the case.

[23:15:17] Loading WAD file ‘assets/global.wad’ with file.^M
[23:15:17] Loading WAD file ‘assets/environment/ground/textures.wad’ with file.^M
[23:15:17] Loading WAD file ‘assets/UI/WhiteOrangeTheme/WhiteOrangeTheme.wad’ with file.^M
[23:15:17] Loading WAD file ‘assets/UI/minimap/minimap.wad’ with file.^M
[23:15:17] Loading WAD file ‘assets/UI/WhiteOrangeTheme/Scotty/Scotty.wad’ with file.^M
[23:15:17] Loading WAD file ‘assets/UI/layouts/layouts.wad’ with file.^M

[23:15:17] ERROR: Could not load wad file: assets/Environment/GrassTextures/GrassTextures.wad^M

Ok, so do I really need to make a copy of the Environment subdirectory so that one is mixed case and the other is lower case. “wack-a-mole”

After making a copy of the Environment subdirectory (into all lower case) the initial wad files all load

There are a bunch more (maybe 50 or so errors in the log file). Will wait on Zwift engineers to fix them or I’ll move to another service.

Case sensitive Mac here. Same problem. @shooj Can you give us an estimate of how long to fix? I want to know whether to wait or just cancel my subscription now.

Thank you for “an” update but how are you going to compensate us? Your online ambassadors just close my requests for a refund.

Ambassador: Hi, If you would like a refund, we would have to forward this to Zwift Support directly under a “Refund Request.”

Me: Please forward it.

Ambassador: Thanks. We’re sorry but this message could not be answered by a Zwift Ambassador, please visit [Zwift Community Support]

If you want a refund you would need to contact Zwift Support directly, but I see no need for a refund.

Contacting Zwift via the official Contact us link isn’t official?

No refund after 22 days (that’s when this topic was started) of being unable to use a subscription I pay for? What should I do with my subscription, donate the month to R&D?

Acord with You.

If you subscribe to Netflix, but can’t use it for a month because they are having technical problems, would you be happy to still pay for it? I can’t see many people would. It’s the same with Zwift, we are literally paying for nothing.

Have not heard back from Zwift Engineers - Put my account on pause. Uninstalled Zwift from my Mac. Planning to try RGT. If RGT works out and I still haven’t heard from Zwift, will cancel. Can’t say I’ll miss the Tron bike, it was fun, but decided to leave it in the garage and try other frames.

Hello,
I’ve tried this old solution, and it worked for me.

Zwift Forum post:
“Zwift will not work with case-sensitive filesystems on Mac OS X”
(zwift-will-not-work-with-case-sensitive-filesystems-on-mac-os-x/7512)

Y.Sasaki

Nothing has worked for me, what a terrible service for what I thought was a nice app, sufferfest will surely replace this… let’s move on zwifters this is just unacceptable 1 month no solution, shame on you zwift.

Nothing works. The support really is painful. I’ve always used Zwift on my macbook air Mojave 10.14.6. From one day to the next it stopped working. With the famous message when loading the lobby.

I tried created another account, a trial account, on the same win10 laptop that I am having issue with and tested able to login every time.
Then when I change user and attempt to login using my paid account, I’m hit with the “Whoops”.

Now I am wondering if this has anything to do with the OS? Be it Win10 or MacOS?

I tried the Mac workaround in the link that @Y.Sasaki posted

zwift-will-not-work-with-case-sensitive-filesystems-on-mac-os-x/7512
(Google it to get full link)

Worked for me. Pity I have to create a separate volume just for Zwift. @shooj I asked for an estimate of how long to fix this - any news on that?

Hi David,
I’m investigating into what happened regarding your contact with our Ambassadors and Support team that lead to that experience. In the meantime, please look out for a separate outreach email from the Support team to help take care of this for you.

@Norm_Brandinger @Markotan_Abrahimovic please also be on the look out for outreach emails from our Support team to help with your situations. Even if today’s game update resolved the issue for you, we’ll take care of you.

@Joaquin_Espinoza I’ll send you a direct message so that I can confirm your contact info and have our Support team reach out to you.

Issues that prevent you all from logging in to Zwift are of critical importance to us and while issues like this take time to investigate, we want to take care of you even if the bug fixes in today’s game release resolved the issues for you.
