Cadence Dropout Troubleshooting Help

I run a Saris/Cyclops Hammer 1 (with to date software) to an iPad ios 26.3 with the Zwift app. I use Zwift Companion on an iPhone 17 with ios 26.3. I pull cadence from the Trek DuoTrap on my bike. The DuoTrap battery is new.

I have a fan about 18 inches away from my iPad and another about 18 inches away from my bottom bracket. Both are analog fans.

Cadence fluctuates and drops out.

I’ve tried the generic troubleshooting with no success. How do I troubleshoot this specific setup?

You can rule out the fans by turning them off and checking if the problem continues.

The DuoTrap cadence function could also be tested by pairing it to something else to see if the signal is stable.

You could also force-quit Zwift on the tablet, install it on the phone, test it there and see if anything differs.

great advice! clearly you know how to troubleshoot. And thank you for not repeating all the usual basic advice.

I suspect the Duo Trap. I replaced it with a separate Garmin cadence sensor and got the same issues. I’ll link cadence to Garmin Edge and see what I see.

I could use a reminder on how Zwift picks up Cadence and how I can temporarily disable that.

There was also a recent discussion of trainer dropouts on iPadOS 26.3 over here. I don’t know if these problems have the same cause but it’s within the realm of possibility.

There is a Cadence tile on the pairing screen. You can click on it to unpair the cadence source. The tile will be orange when unpaired. When you do that, Zwift will make up some cadence which is usually pretty low.
