That’s what I mean–you might not care as much as others, but you care. There would be kit that you would not want to wear, right? Kit with pictures of bunnies all over it, or a jersey with a big picture of [insert your least favorite politician] on the chest, or just really horrible color combos.
If there are two bikes in front of you to pick from, otherwise identical, would you literally have no preference or reason to choose based on color? Or would it just not be as important? It might be that both of those bikes are perfectly acceptable to you, so you flip a coin. But if you can imagine a bike so ugly that you definitely would not choose it over a completely white or black bike, then…you care to some degree about what things look like
I think its disingenuous for anyone to say they truly don’t care. Sure everyone cares a little but its not that big of a deal to me. It be nice (for me) to have the the options I previously posted because then Im not a billboard for a brand or a color scheme pattern I don’t like but ultimately I’m a bit ehh, whatever. The bike and wheels even more so because I can’t really see them or don’t notice them when Im riding.
I just jump on to get my assigned intervals in and get off. I don’t socialize in game or do group rides and I care about the kit only in that I have options but if no options or more limited options were offered I wouldn’t complain.
So yes of course I care to some degree, I think everyone does even if they think it’s cool or edgy to act like they don’t.
Now someone please get on that bunny kit because ill wear the crap outa that.
EDIT: Im not suggesting there is anything wrong with caring a lot either. People like what they like and if having more options keeps them interested in a thing like riding then I totally support it.
I’ve heard rumors of this 7/eleven paint job being unlocked from one group ride from like back in 2017 or something. I’d give approximately all the drops for it, even though the Zwift steel bike (or whatever it’s for) is one of the slowest frames. It’d instantly become my ride of choice.
The rumors are true. It’s a definite classic. I got it in late 2018 during a group ride for World Bicycle Relief, led by members of the 7-Eleven Team. I was really excited to get the special paint scheme, and it’s still one of my favorites.
