Avatars weaving after July 2021 release [1.15.0]

  1. Makuri for me. Watopia was fine.
  2. Built for Zwift/RGT Win10 pc
  3. My own and other avatars

I jumped back on on later yesterday with another pc to spectate others on Makuri - still there but no “collisions” after 5 mins of viewing.

Happened in London with the Vikings Valhalla Recovery Ride, 4:20 pm UTC.
My observation is that you swerve halfway across the road as you approach another rider from behind. This happens even if you try to creep up on them slowly. You get very close, and then you swerve, as if it was triggered at a certain distance to the other rider.
Group Leader tried turning the fence off. I did not notice a change in the swerving due to the fence being on or off.
The swerving is accompanied by a loss of draft. Makes it very difficult to sweep, and difficult to keep a group together.
The swerving behaviour continued into the after-party, indicating that it was not a function of the group ride itself.
Even among a small group of riders trying hard to stay together, any slight gap between riders would trigger the swerving, and shatter the group. Just going around a corner was a problem.

To be clear: this affected all avatars in the ride and in the after-party.

Also: a lot of riders were seeing the same thing, judging from the group chatter. But for the record: I was using Zwift 1.15.0 (75178) last updated 2021-07-19, on Windows 10 Version 21H1 last updated 2021-07-13.

Did a group workout in Makuri last night consisting of around 80 to 100 people. Half the pack continuously swerved and rode in loops all over the road for the entire ride. It was very distracting and I felt bad for the ride organizer.

My avatar wasn’t one of the ones swerving, but I did spend a fair amount of time riding on the shoulder and in the grass.

Thanks for responding.

Addendum: I did not see this issue during the Vikings Valhalla Wednesday Chase Ride, Paris, 4 am Wed July 21 UTC.
This was with the same setup as described above: Zwift 1.15.0 (75178) last updated 2021-07-19, on Windows 10 Version 21H1 last updated 2021-07-13.

I see Zwift 1.15.0 (75178) on both Windows (updated July 19) and iPad (updated July 20).

I had issues in my 3R race in London. Everyone was zigging and zagging. Then sometimes random kicked out to the side out of the draft. Had to work real hard until randomly merged back with group. Or for about 5-10 guys, never were able to get back in the draft, so out the back they went.
After that race ended, I went immediately to Paris for a Fast is Fun race and everything seemed great. No issues. It was a great pack of about 12 of us.

Hmm. Same thing: swerving like crazy in London, all good in Paris. [No political comment intended.]

Update: Vikings Valhalla Fatburn Ride. Innsbruck. 4 am Thursday July 22 UTC.
Did not have swerving problems.
(Except: One rider did report that her avatar was drunk. I did not see this myself.)
Fence was not used.

There is one specific location in Richmond where this happens aswell. All Riders (bar yourself) will weave or jump off to the right and then come back to the road - Your own avatar will remain in a straight line - But this has been in place for months and not specific to this recent update.

It is on the flat section I have crudely (apologies) highlighted below.

Yeah that’s happened for ages. I always thought it was some sort of time/position recalculation.

Seems to be Apple TV and specific courses, I appreciate that there are a lot of platforms and routes to test but it does feel like they just forgot to test Apple TV at all!

If you look at other responses in this thread you’ll see people on Windows, Mac and iPad reporting it too.

one more: London group ride wed night, really swervey, and the whole group hugging the center line of the road. felt like i was riding a sine wave line through the course.

I’m on windows, latest version of zwift, did not see this problem riding in watopia with coco or bowie.

Yeh but if you look at the update thread 90% is Apple TV

Here is some footage from this morning’s Dirt Doozy race on the London Classique course. I’m on windows but seemed to be others weaving. The pack did seem to be riding down the centre of the roads which was a bit odd though.

That vid show avatars trying to get in position. I wonder if this is what the ATV people see. Looking at their description it sound a lot worse like un-rideable.
This is what we currently see :Twitch

There were people commenting during the race (in game) that they were finding it unrideable and a few people quit. The dynamics did not seem very realistic though with avatars spread all over the road.
