While riding today my avatar would occasionally start coasting or dismounting while I’m pedaling. is this a Bluetooth problem? Other riders were suddenly passing me. Then it would seem to wake up and start pedaling. My perceived resistance didn’t change on my bike. Other times when the program has disconnected the resistance has become extreme. today my avatar didn’t want to ride. What’s causing this?
Probably either a disconnection or a problem with the trainer. What are you running the game on and what is the trainer?
I’m using a wahoo kickrcore . I’ve had it for about 4 -5 years.
The game is on my lap top computer. Windows 10. Lenovo YOGA 720.
Thank you for your insight.
To understand if there are disconnections, upload a Zwift log file to trainerdx.com and the log analysis will tell you if it disconnected. The report will also have a Share button you can use to get a link to the log report. If you reply here with that link people can review it. To post a link on the forum you may need to alter it by putting a space in “https” or something like that.
To test the trainer, shut down Zwift on the laptop, unplug the trainer and plug it back in again, run the Wahoo app on a phone or tablet, check for any firmware updates, do the spindown calibration, and start a ride in the Wahoo app. If you can replicate the problem there, then you should talk to Wahoo support.
Welcome to the forums. This is Haziel from Zwift. I want to share some recommendations that may help you.
It seems that your trainer could be contributing to the issue you mentioned. After reviewing your account logs, I noticed that there is a firmware update available for your Wahoo trainer. Please try to update the firmware via the Wahoo app, as this may enhance the stability of your connection and mitigate the avatar behaviors you’ve experienced. I will share this Wahoo article that will guide you: How to Update Firmware on KICKR trainers, BIKEs, and RUN.
I also observed some disconnections during your session, which could be linked to wireless interference. To assist with this, I suggest reviewing this article: BLE and ANT+ Interference Troubleshooting Tips. It outlines potential causes such as overlapping Wi-Fi channels, nearby devices, and the positioning of your trainer in relation to your computer or tablet.
Updating the firmware and considering the interference tips will help you. Please feel free to update us on how it goes after you’ve implemented these steps!
If you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please feel free to contact us. We’re here to support you!
Ride On.
Bluetooth disconnections are also strongly correlated with poor Bluetooth performance in PCs, which is very common, and the usual fix is to disable the built-in Bluetooth adapter and use a dongle with the RealTek RTL8761B chipset such as TP-Link UB500. Given the low cost of the dongle, that can be a more convenient fix than chasing your tail looking for sources of interference.
Haziel,
I updated the trainer using directions you sent. I rode this morning. Zwift had some updates. Waiting on those I had to abbreviate my ride , but good news my avatar did not dismount or coast while I was pedaling.
I will check further the connection concerns using info you sent next ride, when I have more time.
Thank you for your detailed help.
