Attaching Zwift ride to Zwift hub

I am considering buying a Zwift ride to connect to my Zwift hub trainer.

Just wondered if anyone had experience of doing this already and if there were any issues.

I see that the Zwift ride comes with the Zwift cog but it doesn’t have the freebody, which according to the Zwift cog v2 requirements is required for the Zwift hub.

I don’t want to have to purchase the Zwift cog v2 with freehub as the Zwift ride already comes with a Zwift cog.

Is it possible to purchase a Zwift ride and request that it comes with a Zwift cog which has the freehub?

Thanks for you help ?

You do not need another freehub body because there is already one on the trainer. What you would need is a lockring tool and a chain whip to remove the existing cassette from the freehub and install the cog. If you tell me where you live I can suggest a cheap one. Or you can take the trainer to a bike shop and have them install the cog.

Thanks Paul,

I had seen some comments on the Zwift forum that there were issues.

I think I have all the necessary tools, however I have never used them to take off a cassette.

I seen a video on You Tube from Zwift showing you how to remove a cassette and replace with the Zwift cog. It looked relatively easy.

I live in Scotland, where would you suggest getting the tools if mine weren’t up to the job?

Here’s an inexpensive option

Here’s a Park Tool video about cassette removal and replacement. The cog is just a cassette, though you should not make the lockring as tight as you would on a multigear cassette or you might damage it.

Thanks for your help Paul.

Hi @Scott_Walker4 and welcome back to the forums! It’s Alejandro here from Zwift. Great to know you are interested in purchasing a Zwift Ride to continue enjoying the Zwift experience.

If you decide to do so, there is nothing to worry about. Here you can find the steps to remove a cassette in this article. Besides, you can check out this other article to install the new Zwift Cog V2.

Additionally, here you can check this video to properly assemble your Zwift Ride. If there is anything else we can help you with, please do not hesitate to write us at support@zwift.com.

I’m receiving a new cog (replacement Kickr Core and new Cog v2) in a few days, have a Ride setup at home with controllers (connected to previous Kickr Core and Cog v1).

Do I just install the new cog and the Play controllers connect automatically, or do I have to perform some sort of a connection?

The cog is just some metal and plastic. Nothing connects to it.
