Zwift Ride - Do I need to purchase Zwift Cog upgrade kit separately

I have Wahoo Kickr Core with cassette at home. If I buy a Zwift Ride, do I also need to purchase a Zwift code upgrade kit separately?

No, but you will need a Shimano lockring tool and a chain whip to install the Cog that comes with the Ride frame, so you can install it on the freehub that’s already on your trainer. If you buy the upgrade kit separately, you have the option to get it with a multi-trainer freehub which would eliminate the need for the tools. Of course the tools are cheaper than the upgrade kit and can be used indefinitely, so it’s more about whether you are anxious about doing the installation work.

I’m not positive, but is there any reason that one can’t one use a Ride with a trainer that has a cassette on it?

Hi @DM12123

I’m Haziel from the Zwift Support Team, and I truly understand your concerns about needing to buy additional equipment to get started with your Zwift Ride. I’m here to help clarify any doubts you might have.

I want to assure you that when you purchase the Zwift Ride, a Zwift Cog V2 will be included for you. However, as Paul mentioned it would be a version without the Free Hub. If you’d like more information, I recommend checking out the article on installing a Zwift Cog without a Free Hub.
