At my wits end with 0 watts on connected bike

Recently my Zwift just stopped working, no changes made on my side and one day was riding (Stages trainer) and then next day - broken.

On the bike, Zwift seemingly detects the bike no problem - power/cadence etc are all showing up in the pairing screen (iPhone but also tried on Samsung tablet) but when a route loads and I begin riding it’s just 0 watts / 0 rpm.

My bluetooth is working because it also connects my HRM strap and my treadmill with footpod also works perfectly when I do zwift running. It’s just the bike.

I’ve tried all the standard troubleshooting with no luck.

New batteries in cranks, forgetting device in bluetooth, restarting devices and bike but nothing seems to be getting me back to riding.

Anyone experienced similar and have any other things I can try?

Cheers

I assume this is a StagesBike SB20 but let me know if it’s something else. Are you pairing the game to the bike or to the left power meter? You can do either, and you should try both. You can find the left power meter’s ID number printed on a label on the inside of the left crank arm. Find that by clicking on the Power and Cadence tiles on the Zwift pairing screen. You must not pair to the right crank arm or you get 50% power. The Resistance tile on the pairing screen can only be paired to the bike, not the crank arm. If you pair to the left crank arm and get nothing, then I would want to test with something other than Zwift such as the Stages app and see if you get numbers from that.

If you are a Facebook user, I highly recommend the StagesBike SB20 Owners Group for support. There is also some support from Stages (now owned by Giant) since the company was acquired after bankruptcy so if you got nothing from them in the past, you might have a better support experience now.

Is your subscription active and paid up?

You should have watts on the pairing screen even if the subscription is cancelled

He does have watts on the pairing screen - “ On the bike, Zwift seemingly detects the bike no problem - power/cadence etc are all showing up in the pairing screen”

He had the same problem last April and has not cycled since 13th April this year. I wonder if there is some issue collecting an annual subscription?

Do you get to enter a route in Zwift now if your subscription has lapsed, I thought you only got as far as the mountain scene with butterflies flying about. Has that changed?

Thanks Paul,

I’ll take a look on FB, yes - it’s a Stages SB20. It was all working fine, last ride was 13th April then just hasn’t worked since.

My subs are active and so not that.

Wonder if there’s some issue from the 13th. Looking back on Strava, my last ride was on the 13th April and then when I went to use it on the 14th it stopped working and hasn’t worked since.

My subs are paid monthly through my Apple account so not an annual issue.

Hmm I interpreted that as “it pairs”

Anyway, with no subscription you would not get into a ride the way the game works now, and the way it worked before they made that change, you would see watts but no movement when in the ride. In this case there are zero watts while in the ride. So my first questions were related to understanding if the electronics in the bike are correctly bridging the signal from the power meter, or if the power meter itself is not sending watts. That can be determined by pairing directly to the power meter instead of the bike, and testing the power meter with the manufacturer’s app.

Do you see any option (in game) to ‘restore purchase’? Sometimes there are issues where Zwift doesn’t recognize that your Apple sub is paid up. This doesn’t happen often, but worth checking just in case. I would think you’d see a message to this effect, but not positive.
