Assistance with Wahoo Kickr

@George_Armstrong - Could you verify one thing, that you are selecting the KICKR as the power source in the startup, paired devices screen? Do not pair the KICKR as a speed sensor.

You can select either a power source or a speed sensor. If you selected the KICKR as a speed sensor, it won’t work in Zwift, as mentioned somewhere above in the thread.

It does not allow me to select either. It automatically chooses power.

So I’ve looked at your last activity and from the picture it looks like you are riding a MTB in-game. Change this to a road bike and your speed will be much higher on normal roads.

And as Steve says check that your Kickr is connected as a power source, not a speed sensor. If it is set as a speed sensor then that will cause the watts to be capped (to 400 I think)

I tried both road bike as well as mountain bike. The mountain bike had better results on that course because it was serpentine 8 dirt track.

Also, looking at the screenshot the Kickr doesn’t appear to be connected as a power source. If it was then there would be a lightning bolt under your name in the list where I’ve highlighted in red

Looking over your game statistics you are about 95 rpms when you achieve 200+watts. Probably in a taller gear than me.

That particular run was done by my girlfriend on my previous sunny bike setup. Wahoo cadence sensor and wahoo speed sensor.

The rpm isn’t really relevant. It’s possible to do 200w at any rpm in the right circumtances. I’m pretty sure the issue is that for some reason your kickr is not connected to send power data and be controlled by Zwift

soon as I hit 4% grade I can do 400 watts at 40 rpm. I simply dont have enough resistance 0 grade.

Fair enough, I’m out of ideas. Best to try your luck with Zwift support.

Well thanks for your effort and sharing your game experience with me. It helps me troubleshoot some at least. When I get home after work I’ll try to post some pictures now that I know I can. I don’t think that’ll help much.

One last thought, if you have another device you can load Zwift on to that you haven’t used before then try that. Or uninstall/reinstall Zwift. At least then it will start from scratch and make sure the old speed sensor is not paired somehow.

Game does the same on ipad, iphone, and windows 10. I have tried removing all devices. I debated uninstalling and reinstalling. Guess I am not desperate enough yet.

I would suggest taking the trainer and bike to a bike shop and have them test with another bike. It can be that the trainer have a issue.

what is the size of your front big gear? Is your weight set correct in Zwift?

Your last ride looked better, 178w average:

Are you feeling any resistance changes on the hills?

“The mountain bike community is ripe for enjoying zwift, especially during the winter; but it’s annoyingly to spin out of our fastest gear with 100 cadence at 130 watts of resistance.”

Exactly what happens to me. Thanks for the link man. It is very useful.

This again was probably my girlfriend. I will be doing rides with a heart rate monitor tracking me 170-180bpm. She won’t do anything that intensive, and she will not be using the Kickr. I do my rides 3:30pm from mon-sat est. Sunday is my only early riding day. I have done 8 or more days in a row and it’s her birthday today. I won’t be doing any rides today, but I will mess with setting up my shifting and taking a few pictures. My rides will all be an hour or longer additionally. They should be 20 miles, but with the calibration issues I’m landing at about 13-16.

how long does your kickr 2020 spindown take? i see the older models had a belt tensioner and it was recommended to be set 9-16 seconds spindown. mine would be quite loose then at 25 seconds unless it truly doesnt matter on the 2020.

fixed my gear alignment and hopped into the game selected power cadence and controller directly. i noticed something new i had not seen. at the top right my “use built in bluetooth” was unchecked when i was trying to directly pair before. i had a fair bit of connection problems that was why i was pairing through the wahoo fitness app. when i selected this option and played the game i got pretty good numbers. my cadence was much lower even in the lower gears. my legs are exhausted and i couldnt test the top end out with any real duration but i definitely have resistance now on flats. im not too sure what changed, but thanks for the help guys. i was able to do a sprint on flat with 300watts and plenty of resistance for higher numbers.
