Apple TV remote app on iPhone not working

I’m running Zwift on an Apple TV4K (about 18 months old, not the latest version).

Apparently Apple is no longer supporting the separate ATV remote app.
The ATV remote is now part of the Control Center.
This app has arrows which should make it easier to use, but I am not able to navigate
the route choices or workout choices. Using the arrows moves me out of the workout
or route choices. There doesn’t seem to be an option to swipe.
I can use the app to access the keyboard after a ride to change the name, but I can’t
use the arrows to choose anything else.

Is there a setting that needs to be changed?

Do you not have the original ATV remote?

Yes, but it’s difficult to use the slider to choose routes/workouts, especially if my fingers are sweaty.

I found the setting that allows changing from the arrows to a touch-pad.

The app works fine now.
