I am on my 3rd set of Play controllers. The left controller stopped working altogether after a little over a year. Thanks to Zwift’s great customer support, they set me a free replacement set so I was able to replace the left controller and also the right controller when its steering stopped working a couple months later. Fortunately, I had also purchased another set when they were available on discount, because within 6 months, the steering on the second left controller stopped working. Being down now to just one spare right controller, I recently purchased the Zwift Hub and Clicks to have as another backup.
Except for the original left controller failure, the other two failures have affected the steering only. The shifting feature on the other 2 broken controllers still works fine. However, because the steering can’t be turned off, it forces my rider to stay on one side of the road or the other which makes the game unplayable for racing, group rides, etc.
Here’s my recommendation: Can Zwift change the Zwift setup programming that would allow steering to be turned on or off independently from shifting? I don’t use steering that much and wouldn’t miss it. But shifting is a gamechanger that I would hate to lose if I can’t continue to replace broken controllers. After 2 steering failures out of 3 controllers, I would suspect that I’m not the only Zwifter with this problem. Making the steering an independent selection would allow me to keep the otherwise useless 2 controllers as backups instead of throwing them away.
Note: I haven’t misused/abused the controllers or damaged them in any other way to cause the failures. I also really haven’t used the steering function that much to cause a wear and tear/overuse failure in such short periods of time.
I’m through 3 pairs - they are designed so that there is an opening which means sweat which means meh.
This feature would also help the main failure mode on KickrBike as well
I have the Click2s and they feel like a cheap toy that you purchase for your toddlers. However…I like the virtual shifting much more that I anticipated so I picked up a backup during the recent sale. Comes with the Cog.
I would pay for an upgraded version in Ti or SS.
