Another bug to add to the list since the new update on the Atom - it might not be related, but considering it has happened to me in BOTH the races I have done since the steering wheel icon appeared, I’m thinking there’s a good chance it’s the cause. Rather than no-one else appearing in the world as reported above, I COULD see everybody else, but they could not see ME.
All my team mates on Discord confirmed my avatar could not be seen on the course even when I was riding alongside them and I didn’t appear on the Riders Nearby list either. But not only could I see them, I could even draft off them and I was apparently appearing in the sprint / KOM leaderboards for everybody. Also my race rank was always showing on my screen as last (e.g. 66th out of 66), even though riders were behind me. At the end of both events I checked ZwiftPower and I was in the results at the correct position for both rides.
Had to resort to uninstall/reinstalling and have followed Alison’s advice and not touched anything related to steering. I did manage to get into a group event last night but it was far from perfect with numerous me nor issues in game.
Not seeing any other riders, found a work around by not connecting devices - watch someone else then go back to me. Far from ideal, but now seems to be resolved.
Race rank showing as second to last (bizarely not actual last). I didn’t realise others couldn’t see me, but that would make sense, as a team mate commented he didn’t recall catching me on a climb. ZP results seem correct though.
Steering u-turns if I leave the future works bit activated.
I’ve re/uninstalled and will try again tonight, hopefully that fixes
I had the same issue, it auto connected and then spiral of death. I would have thought the Zwift Dev team would have done functional testing prior to release. Obviously just did positive testing on Kickr bike and not negative impact testing on other devices.
Same thing here and looking at Wattbike Atom groups on Facebook there seems to be dozens of people experiencing the same issues. As Alison has mentioned above, the best workaround I’ve found it just to let it connect up then avoid the button. Seems to leave me visible and able to use the chat functions.
If I try disconnecting upon start-up, the connects drop out and never reconnect. If I disconnect in the pairing screen having entered a world or an event, I turn invisible to other users and on the chat, but everything appears to be working as normal (draft seems a bit odd, but may be placebo effect).
In case it helps I had this from Wattbike support, it works for me but have only tried it once so far.
In terms of Zwift and steering, please see below detail. We do not control any features in the Zwift app, so only Zwift can enable/ disable this. We are however keen to implement once tested thoroughly.
Zwift have left some of the pre-release testing of the new steering function on the Wattbike Atom live in their latest January 2021 release, which isn’t ready for release yet. We are working with the Zwift team to complete this work and apologise for the inconvenience this has caused during some of your rides
Launch Zwift
On pair devices screen pair your Atom as usual but leave steering enabled
This does work, but the trouble is if you deselect the steering in point 5, that’s what causes you to become invisible to other riders. Not a huge problem in the scheme of things, but is an issue if you’re taking part in events such as a TTT.
The only other solution is to not change the steering settings at all and then just try not touch the top buttons on the handlebars while riding - which is very easy to do accidentally!
That’s the thing - it’s actually quite difficult to tell! I only found out because I was on a group ride using Discord with my team-mates and they were saying that they couldn’t see my avatar on screen, my name did not appear in the rider list for them and they couldn’t see any of the messages I was making in chat on Zwift. My on-screen position (e.g. 9th out of 9 above the rider list) was also always listed last place even if I was at the front of the group. But as far as I was concerned, I was riding normally and could see everybody - even the draft worked.
A number of other people with Wattbikes have reported the same issue if you disconnect steering once in the ride, but interestingly I’m led to believe some people with the Wahoo Kickr (where the steering DOES work) have said this invisibility has happened to them as well…
Yes, both me and a teammate have had this several times last 10 days on kickr bike with apple tv. Only way to see on own screen is to see that your last place (rider list is ok).
I’ve had the problem without turning steering off before event, turning off when logging in and turning off im menu. A couple of times have been without problems aswell without knowing why. This really is an annoying bug…
I’ve also had this issue on NG Wattbike, love the Spiral of death. i’ve also found when deselecting steering on the connections screen it then results in no other riders being seen on screen. Anyone else experienced this?
almost 2 weeks have passed and this issue is still there. A normal company would just have released a quick update removing the steering option for smart bikes and properly test and release again when sure it would not affect other smart bikes. Its not just the spiral of death, is also creating a problem of ghost riders.
I just had an email from support saying they are working on the steering issue but no eta. I have also reported the showing last but one issue during a race but not heard anything on that. If leaving steering on resolves the being invisible issue and position on the dashboard I’ll probably run with the risk of hitting the top button. I was worried that by leaving steering on it might affect drafting and overtaking but doesn’t sound like it does.
