Zwift runs poorly on Apple TV

I just purchased Zwift bike to use with my existing Wahoo Kickr Core trainer.

I set it up on Wednesday and it worked fine and work perfectly Thursday morning and this morning when I did some workouts.

The workouts were done in the erg mode as I always do.

Yesterday, when I finished the workout and continued riding, The electronic shifting work just fine. Today however, When I continued riding after the workout, the shifter seem to be stuck in first gear, and would not shift up.
What was odd though is that It felt like it was still in erg mode. I did everything I could to get it back to manual shifting. Even stopping and starting a few new rides. Finally, I deleted the app from the TV and reloaded it. And now it works fine.

A couple of details. I have two TVs set up, both running off of Apple TV boxes. And I use AirPods for the TV that is not being used for Zwift. I did try to turn off the non-Zwift TV and turn off the headphones, but that did not help. And I was able to use the other TV and the headphones once I reloaded the app and it was working again.

As I said, everything is back to normal. I am just wondering if I did something basically incorrect or Is this something?

do you force close the Zwift app on Apple TV after each use? If not, it can cause a lot of issues and gremlins like this. I’m guessing that if the restart did the trick, that is why.

Hi @Mike_Robertson2471 welcome to Zwift forums.
Shuji at Zwift HQ here.

I also Zwift on an Apple TV. With ATV, it’s easy to leave apps running in the background after you’re done using them. What happens is that the app doesn’t have the chance to purge temp files, and after a while, the accumulation takes up a limited amount of memory, and the app to run poorly.

Force-closing the Zwift app will clear that cached clutter as @Mike_Rowe1 said.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the Zwift app will also clear the cache. Rebooting the Apple TV will also get the job done.
