Hello, the Zwift web site has not been updated for the Ride and Cog 2 as regards compatibility with Tacx products for some time and this is causing real confusion. There are many Zwift users who have the popular Tacx Neo 2 Smart (llaunched 2019 and very very reliable). I have done a lot of research on this with mixed results. Garmin and Zwift now say the Tacx Neo 2T is compatible, but make no mention of the more popular Tacx Neo 2 Smart. But it is virtually and identical product. Garmin says it is likely to be compatible but they need to do some lab tests,…….Zwift forum says it is compatible, AI says compatible but you may need to buy a different dimension axle. Is there anyone out there who is successfully using the Zwift Ride with the TACX NEO 2 SMART please! Is it compatible and works well? Or do I have to take the risk and be a test pilot?
I forgot to add,…..if ZWIFT can get their act together on this they will sell more Zwift Rides!! Perhaps a good idea?
it works.
while i don’t actively use my neo2 as i replaced it with the core when i got the ride before Tacx supported virtual shifting i got it back out its box and connected up and zwift recognised it as having virtual shifting.
I’m sure you will get some replies from Neo 2 riders. I’m one but I do not intend yet to switch to Cog or Zwift Ride.
I don’t know what you have read online or within the forum but IMO this linked forum thread quite clearly outlines, I think, the latest information from Zwift.
The technical advice you get within the thread from @shooj will be better than any information you get elsewhere.
I’m never sure about the reliability of what you can find online. My interpretation of what I have read is that.
Tacx Neo 2 is now compatible with Zwift Cog and virtual shifting.
Tacx Neo 2 is NOT compatible with Zwift Ride due to the ‘narrowness’ of the Zwift Ride chain stays.
Does your neo 2 rub on the Zwift Ride chain stays?
I’ll need to check that maybe it’s just the virtual shifting. I’ll put on later after I’m done riding.
Hi Gordon
Yes please could you do this! Thanks. There is complete confusion between Garmin and Zwift as to wether the Tacx Neo 2 Smart is compatible with the Ride
I don’t understand the chain stay issue as the 2 Smart case should be exactly the same as the 2T …..
I have been trying to get approval for months
Does this help? Garmin & Zwift Announce Tacx NEO 2T & 3M Virtual Shifting
from the DC Rainmaker review: This is simply because the frame won’t fit around the Tacx NEO 3M’s case/bulk. Same goes for the NEO 2 (won’t fit). However, the NEO 2 SE will fit.
We have a 2SE, I wish I knew someone with a Ride as I would test this out…
I am hoping that Gordon can try out his Tacx Neo 2 Smart with the Zwift Ride/Cog for both rear chainstay compatibility and software compatibility. I have done more research with AI, it seems the Tacx Neo 2T had some minor mods done, including a slight narrowing of the top moulded housing to take narrower chainstays. As the Zwift Ride has a narrow chainstay (design error from my point of view) the AI says the Zwift may not fit the Tacx Neo 2SE and and Neo 2 Smart nor a later 3 version. To me, complete lack of design coordination between Garmin and Zwift.
Having said all that….the real test is with Gordon ,…….the actual physical test of the Tacx Neo 2 Smart with the Zwift Ride. If the Ride chainstays rub or are only slightly narrower that the Neo 2 Smart housing ( photos needed) I may grind down or modify the appropriate tacx housing. If compatibility is impossible, I will have to decide either Tacx with another frame and Zwift Cog and Click options or Zwift Ride with a Wahoo. Problem is,…I love my Tacx, especially the road feel, power output and limited rocking
the whole Tacx hometrainer/Ride compatibility issues are a dogs dinner.
Hi Gordon could you let us know if the Tacx Neo 2 Smart upper front housing is too wide to take the chainstays,….or if if it is touching and squeaking when riding. I could ground down slighlty the offending part of the housing. If it is a bigger problem with a real ‘impossible incompatibility’ then I will have to think of something else. How do you find the Zwift RIde with the Yahoo One,…compared to the Tacx? Do you miss the Tacx road feel, stability and silence?
Please note I put a larger message further down the reply list
Zwift’s position is it’s not compatible with the Zwift Ride smart frame. We advise you not purchase the frame if you own any of these Tacx models.
The reason is these trainers flare out in width, and in most cases, the chainstays of the Ride frame will rub against the trainer.
Interference is worsened if you’re using a trainer mat which allows the front leg of the frame to sink lower than if it sat on hard flooring.
We will wait for Gordon.
Apparently the 2T was designed slimmer to fit all bikes, but then my Neo 2 Smart fits my three race bikes (some 10 speed)
i have looked at the two products in photos - and,…I cannot see any difference in the housing…so am baffled
Hopefully Gordon will give us feedback
Garmin are of no help. they do not seem to understand the Tacx products in detail
Well it fits but they are touching. Not honestly sure what damage to the trainer/chainstays would happen especially as the neo rocks probably not something i would want to test long term unless both were well out of warranty
I like the ride with kickr core. i hated road feel so had that switched off anyway.Zwift ride is very stable and as silent i’d say if chain is clean and lubed.
What happens if you stick something under the front of the Ride frame? I wonder if any of the front riser options would help.
i’d say you need an inch possibly two to give it clearance. wonder if those tennis ball feet would be enough
If you are getting a zwift ride frame the core 2 is only another £250 on top i’d just go with that. it’s new a solid trainer unless you do elite racing you are all good.
