ZWIFT RIDE with COG 2 + Click Upgrade with TACX Neo 2 Smart

Thankyou Shuji,
They need to make this statement clear on the Zwift Tacx compatibility,…as when we look at photos between these Tacx Neo models they look identical
Do you know of any adjustable bike frame that can replace the Zwift ride to which we can attach the Zwift COg2/ and Click and play electronics,…as well as having wider change stays for Tacx Neo 2 Smart, 2 SE and 3M?
The Wahoo Kikr Core 2 does not have the road feel, power nor downhill realism of the Tacx Neo range

Almost any bike will work for that. If you’re looking for an indoor-specific frame with wide adjustability you could look at Caveworks.

Thankyou so much Gordon, it is clear now.
I did not realise that the front end of the right chainstay was so pinched in. Clearly Zwift only tested the protos on certain hometrainer models. Yup this is a “no go” for 2 smart and 2SE
At the same time comparing photos of the 2T vs the Neo 2 Smart - they look identical! So I dont know how well the 2 T fits

Personally I love the ride of the Tacx Neo, with gravel wood and paved,…above all the more the realistic downhill rolling ( as I weight 90kg so it accounts for that)

Not sure what to do here. I do not want to continue my good bikes on hometrainers ( it ruin the chains, gear shifting etc,.. and they need constant parts changes)

I think I will buy the new Cog and Click upgrade Kit and attach it to a cheap Decathlon frame with a single front plate, Shimano chain, front wheel, basic alu handlebars (no tape) and easy adjust saddle and post. Zwift says Cog and Click is compatible with the Tacx Neo 2 Smart and the 3M,…as well as the 2T,…but it does not mention the 2SE ,…but amd sure this is OK as it is a 2

In that way I keep the Tacx,…and Zwift lose €800 of sales for the Ride. Real shame for both of us but why spend €1300 on a complete Ride Wahoo Core 2 when I have the Tacx…

Gordon, I really appreciate your help for us. You should get an award for this

I accept that argument. As per my previous email,…I am split on the two choices.

Thanks Paul. I will look at caveworks.

elite square should work as well.

I have checked out the Caveworks and the square….all good options but expensive considering,….plus not really attractive in a home space

Simply put,….I think it is best to take an appropriate non rusting bike frame, front wheel, and front drive plate, and shimano 105 derailleur ( for chain tension ) and attach the Zwift Cog 2 plus and try to buy the Zwift Ride handlebars or at least the Zwift brake fixations to attach to the handlebars. Will check it out

if you don’t want the full handlebars the zwift click 2 have all the same functionality (other than breaking)

and a cheap chain tensioner would probably work.

I agree those other options are not good value for money compared to putting a used road bike on your trainer. If you don’t require the adjustability for sharing with another rider, there’s not a lot to be gained. The controls on the Ride are nice though.

The NEO 2T barely fit and you need the large foot riser on the front. In my case I also have motion plates on my NEO 2T so I had to build a skateboard for the front with the right height to clear the Ride chainstay and keep the fore-aft movement.

Oh, very clever. Do you have any details of this?

I would like to Summarise the Zwift Ride Compatibility issue with the Tacx Neo 2 Smart, the 2SE and the 3M. Firstly thank you to Gordon qnd you all for helping me on this, as it was not well explained WHY by Garmin or Zwift.

The Zwift Ride rear chainstay has the tube inset on the right side to accomodate the tension adjuster, insteading of putting the tensioner back where a derailleur would go.

This means that the inside front of the chainstays is very narrow, and can only take narrow (such as the 2T) or ride systems that are more to the rear. So the Tacx Neo 2 Smart (and 2SE and 3M) may squeeze in between the chainstays but will rub at the front. The 2T is slightly narrower but there is almost no margin for sideways movement when standing during climbing, but the 2T is only just “compatible”.Hmmm. Please see Gordons photos higher up on the comments and it becomes easy to understand. I love my Tacx (great road feel and realism inc downhill) but I cannot go with the Zwift Ride (which I also like)

Options:

A.Buy the Zwift Ride inc the Kikr Core 2 for €1300 but lose the Tacx benefits

B. Buy a Caveworks single speed and fit the new Zwift Cog2&Click2 and attach your Tacx. But the Caveworks: Not so nice looking nor user friendly, does not have a hometrainer compatibility chart on the web, and you will not get the lovely Zwift Ride Cockpit with brake handles etc. But the Click 2 is OK

C. Buy the Sqaure and do the same

D. Get a rust proof, nice looking used bike frame, with single front chainplate, std Shimano chain, a simple single speed chain tensioner (for the rear derailleur position), an easy adjust saddle tube and saddle, cheap front wheel, and a pair of handlebars with sweat proof covering onto which you can mount cheap brake hoods. An ergostem to mount the handlebars will add some adjustability in height and forward/rear. Then attach your Cog2&Click2 from Zwift,……attach the Tacx Neo 2 Smart (or 2T or 2SE or 3M) and there we go. Cheaper, quieter, nice looking, but without the Zwift Ride brakes and cockpit.

I think that sums it up. Am going for D. unless Zwift get their act together and modify to produce a compatible Ride 2!!!

Also I was thinking of storage space! I already have my 10 year old Felt F3 SRAM Red (not reliable) which I am about to replace, a Casati UM2 (2001 UM2/carbon super handmade with ultra reliable Campagnolo Record Carbon) and a locally made bike from 1998! I don’t need yet another indoor bike so will take the oldest bike and adapt as full time indoor and save some storage!!!

I also want to fit my Zwift ride on the Tacx Neo 2 Smart. With highering the front it should be doable. Now I see I don’t have the 12x142 adapters, only 12x148. Is there I place I could buy these separately to fit the Zwift Ride on there?

I would be careful as the narrower 2T only just fits and as you see from the photos abovefrom Gordon, yes you need to rise the front. But there may still be contact,… particularly as the Smart does have side to side movement. Yes you can buy the adapter from a web shop if necessary. I have decided to adapt my oldest road bike with the new Zwift Cog2 and Click update kit,…but I may need an adapter too…..will see when delivered.

It is a shame there is poor coordination between Garmin and Zwift when the Ride was developed.

Try eBay to find Axle adapters specifically for NEO. I believe there is a Canadian seller who ships globally. Good luck!

Jon is correct about having to raise the front of the Neo trainer that can fit the Cog. I slotted in the Tacx Riser though it isn’t flat but got the job done for me. I tried asking my wife for the wooden chopping block for the kitchen and got a growl… so that’s my story.

Cog2 chain setting at between 5-6 worked and kept the sound to the very minimal.

You can purchase the kit for the NEO 2 and 2T at Garmin.com
