Zwift Ride with 2 right cranks

I bought the new Zwift Ride and I just realized that, on the left crank, the thread for mounting the left pedal is not directed properly towards the frame of the bike; it’s instead pointed in the opposite direction, that is, there’s a right pedal thread made on the left crank, so it’s impossible to mount any left pedal (Zwift flat pedal or any clipless one) on the left crank; so basically it’s another right crank.
How can I fix this? Is it possible to have a new left crank threaded correctly without sending back to Zwift the whole Ride?
Here’s the pic of it:

It it possible? Yes it could be drilled out and replaced with a helicoil insert. Should you do that? No you have a new product under warranty and should get a replacement.

The writing on the crank is all right.
You tighten both pedal towards the front of the bike.

Is the thread different to what is written on the crank?

Looks like the thread is worn out.
Did you wear it out trying to mount a pedal or was it like this from the factory?

Hi Cris,

yes the writing is all right, there’s also the “L” icon on the crank, which is correct.
The thread unfortunately is going outwards over the left of the crank (it’s hard to assess the direction of the thread from the pic I posted), so it’s going against the direction of the thread on the left pedal screw.

The thread is worn out because of my initial attempts to screw the pedal in the crank thread.

Hello @Luca_Airoldi welcome to Zwift forums.

In the bike industry - it is standard that the right pedal is normal threaded and the left pedal is reverse threaded. The left crank is reverse-threaded to match. The arrow on that image shows the correct direction to tighten the pedal.

Please also check the pedals themselves. They should also be clearly marked left and right.

Your photo and description seem to show the left crank, and if so - that is installed on the frame correctly. As the threads are now damaged - please contact Zwift Support to discussion options.

You can double check the threading on that crank arm by threading a left-hand-thread pedal into the back side of the crank arm so you’re not trying to use the ruined threads.

@shooj

He is trying to tell us that there is a clockwise thread in the left crank arm,
And not a counter clockwise thread as it should be.

Hi Paul,

Yes I exactly did that and it matches perfectly; that is, if I mount the left pedal on the RIGHT side of the left crank it screws itself in flawlessly. So that should be the proof of the wrong threading, right?

No that indicates the crank arm is left hand thread as it should be. It’s the same threading all the way through so it doesn’t matter which side you screw it into. So the damage could have been caused by bad threads or cross threading, but not by having right hand threading on the left crank arm.

Is it possible that you just f***ed it up?

@Cris_To @Paul_Southworth you guys are both right! In the end I retried today a lot and finally it went in… seems like I initially cross threaded it and damaged it, but I managed to thread the pedal right today and it screwed perfectly.
Thanks for your time guys, much appreciated.
Cheers
