In general all Zwift hosted race should have Zwift Play enabled. We paid money to use this item to steers in races. If you disable the feature of steering why did we buy it in the first place?
This totally feels like a bait and switch.

i don’t know, why did you buy them?
Did you not look at the steering in action before you paid?
It makes the steering in pole position look like a hardcore sim. If you can race with a straight face while watching other people in the race steering then kudos to you because it cracks me up every time I see it in a youtube video.
But yeah I guess if you feel they made you pay, well if they forced everyone else to pay £99 for it how would that be any better? It was a bad idea.
At this point the best solution is : release the bluetooth protocol details so other people can create devices (or just devices they have already) to do steering and virtual shifting etc, and then when everyone has steering, you can just disable it and laugh about it.
Oh and maybe zwift could donate to an ocean cleanup charity because all of this plastic tat hardware is going to end up in landfill or the pacific anon.
Other steering devices are available - and have been since before the Zwift Controllers became available.
I think Zwift play is only available in a handful of countries. I’m not generally a fan of expensive pay-to-win mechanics but even less so when it’s not available to everyone. It would be nice if Zwift had a basic steering controller which is just two bluetooth buttons that you clip to either side of your handlebars. You can get a basic bluetooth ready button for less than $5, so even with markup charge $20 for the pair and make them available worldwide. Then when steering is cheap and widely available you can start including it in racing more.
You cut the quote off…
The OP was complaining about steering in races. I’m keeping it On Topic by pointing out a potential fix for them rather than dragging the thread off in another direction.
people keep saying they give an advantage but if you are a weaker rider with them vs a stronger rider without them, they aren’t going to mask that deficit and you are still going to get beat, I have a pair and I don’t feel I get any advantage other than being able to slice the corner marginally, the stronger riders will always win
to steer in races would be my guess seeing as that’s what zwift advertised them for
they never advertised them as being for races and still don’t, unless you count the reference to repack rush on the store page
Having done regular racing and academy race. It is a huge difference. If you ever overtake a rider without steering, the PD sticky draft requires you a ton of extra effort. If you can over take at corners you are saving a lot of effort.
