Hi, seems Zwift play controllers are sold out on the website, is there a new version coming? They were also with a discount last couple of weeks.
Really interested in these as I broke my shoulder and can only ride indoors with 1 arm for the next month, so I’m thinking virtual shifting would really help here.
highly doubtful as they seem to still be trying to get many zwifters not using it- using it. it also seems the cog and other items of the same type of build are out of stock.
zwift play would help you especially if you set the controller up like a di2 shifter
Thanks, I have sram wireless shifting and was looking at those sram blips, but in this case as I’m also zwifting the year round the play controllers make more sense. I see the zwift ride frame also out of stock. Maybe they will be re-stocking for the winter season ahead - at least for EU.
Hi @J_B1, welcome to the Forums! I’m Francisco from Zwift Support.
The Zwift Play controller isn’t available for purchase, and we don’t have another version to answer your question.
If you’d like virtual shifting, you can use the Zwift Cog and Click Upgrade Kit, which adds shifting controls to compatible trainers. Please check your trainer’s compatibility here: Zwift-ready and Zwift Cog compatible trainers.
Another choice is the Zwift Ride Smart Frame, which comes with built-in shifting handlebar controllers. Check compatibility.
You need two arms to shift with the play controllers, and the shift-buttons are not very clickable/easy to use so I think the regular click-button would be a better solution for you. The virtual shifting on my Elite Avanti trainer is not a good experience so if you have a trainer with bad virtual shifting-implementation I would put my money on an SRAM mtb-shifter or blips.
Is the Cog compatible with sram flat top chains? I read online some challenges with it
The Zwift ride would be interesting, however, there’s no compatibility with the KICKR Climb, so I would lose that functionality, possibly a ZWIFT RIDE V2 could take that into account. Certainly seen you also have now the Elite and Tacx risers.
The Cog/Click is then probably the best option, if the cog is compatible with SRAM chains.
Also really believe everything will be re-stocked OR new versions coming out, we’re just before the winter season on the northern hemisphere it would be crazy to not have any stock. Possibly also a launch of a new Wahoo core etc…
I don’t know if it’s compatible or not, but you do not need to use the cog. You can keep using the cassette and use virtual shifting with the click or play.
thanks, indeed good option! Now, I also found out about this QZ app - I would still like physical buttons to be pushed, but I can use this QZ app in the meantime until they have the buttons/play controllers/whatever new back on stock.
Thanks Paul, however the issue is the loss of the play controllers.
I’m really dependant on mine, I use them for navigating the game, navigation whilst on a ride, ride ons and the big one, power ups. To add to that, as a Neo owner I’ve recently got virtual shifting which has further expended the use of them.
All things eventually fail so I will need to replace these at some point. @Francisco_J are you seriously saying there are no plans to produce stand alone play controllers again? That would be a huge loss, you could to a slimmed down version without steering if you need to (though that would also be a loss) but we need something… CC @shooj
Even though I miss the control function I really cannot use them on my new bike. Their bulkiness puts my hands in such an awkward position I end up with cyclists palsy. It no fun when your thumbs suddenly stop working. I tried it again last week but I immediately felt the sensory part of my ulnar nerve getting paresthesia, didn’t want to test how ling it would take to motor nerve involvement too
I and a few others have fitted them further down the bars. It’s not optimum as you can’t access all the buttons as easily. But I can still use the hoods and drops as normal, whilst still being able to steer.
