Zwift freezing during startup and locking Windows [January 2026]

I’ve been having same problems. first on Win10, so braved the Win11 force installed…bingo it worked for one ride. then back to it failing and locking up.
Today removed update KB507410 first which was masking the trouble–> KB5074109…then key thing paused checking for updates for 5 weeks so it didn’t try and install it again.

This PC is only used for Zwift, so not that fussed about the security updates.

I bit of research suggests a patch is available, but not for my particular graphics card.

Here we go again… Win10 force installed KB5073724 so Zwift locked-up again.

Had to remove KB5075912 then KB5073724 appeared, and could be removed AGAIN.

Zwift then made it past the blue startup screen. Noticed that startup takes an unusually long time, and clicking the mouse often causes an immediate hard lock-up (Win10 dead, power cycle).

Zwift + Win10 doesn’t like NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti’s!

It’s been 2 weeks since this post. You really need to be communicating to your users, even if it’s just that you’re waiting on someone else, like Microsoft. You can only pause windows updates for so long before they’ll get pushed automatically.

Microsoft just released the 2026-02 Security Update. It is supposed to be a cumulative update, hence it will probably do everything the 2026-01 Updates did but with new stuff and fixes to the January updates. I did notice it is supposed to fix a problem with NVidia GPUs that the January updates caused, although the problem cited was less severe that what we’ve experienced. At some point I”ll give it a try and report back. Others please do the same.

Note that Microsoft gives you just 10 days to uninstall a security update if it does not work well. So there should be no risk in trying it, as long as you don’t wait too long to uninstall it if needed.

Windows 10 Pro freezes with these new security updates also so it is painfully obvious that there is something wrong with Zwift because all the other applications run correctly even with high graphics.

The latest Windows 11 security update KB5077181 has not resolved my issues :frowning:. This is so frustrating!

Okay so still no fix for almost a month and Windows is forcefeeding updates, and “the fix” then would be to delete those updates and hope it works… Laptop and desktop PC, both the same issue. Guess I will use my phone then? Really doubting to extend my subscription this year, especially when other platforms are free or not as expensive.

You’re frustrated, like most Win11/Win10 users with Nvidia GTX 9xx graphics cards. Zwift support recommends using a phone or tablet instead, which seems like a joke. They say they’re investigating the issue, but it seems to affect a small percentage of users, which is why the problem hasn’t been resolved for a month.

I replaced a 970 with an RTX 2060, not affected by this issue, US$130 on eBay and works with a 450W PSU driving my 12th gen Intel system. Not saying you should have to do that but it is an escape route.

Paul may I ask if you replaced the 970 with the 2060 as a fix for this particular issue?

I’m asking becuase I have both a win10 with a 970 and a win11 with a 2070 I’m having issues with both since mid Jan

No I replaced it about a month prior

After the 2026-02 Update installed, Zwift freezes my Windows 11 computer when launching just as it did after the 2026-01 Update. I am currently uninstalling the 2026-02 update as I write this.

My graphics card is a NVidia GTX 560. Not the greatest, but it got the job done… until now with the Windows security updates.

The 2026-02 update quickly reinstalled itself when I wasn’t looking. So I blocked it. For those that don’t know how to block specific updates, Microsoft publishes a tool called “wushowhide.diagcab”. I can’t post a web link here, but if you search the web for that, you should find it pretty easily. Download the file, launch it by double clicking on the file, then you’ll see the first two screens I show below. On the second screen, click on “Hide updates", and it will search Windows Update and show you a list of currently available updates. Then you can select one or more to block them.

If you change your mind later, run it again and select “Show hidden updates.”

Just make sure you do this after uninstalling the 2026-02 update.

Are we going to get any help with this one, Zwift? I know Microsoft had a bunch of issues with the 2026-01 update, but they seem to think they have it sorted out now. But the problem persists with Zwift and NVidia GPUs, definitely with the GTX series, and apparently even with some of the RTX series.

Need I remind you that the Zwift “Supported Devices” page for a computer says any dedicated 1 GB GPU meets the minimum (such as my GTX 560) and a NVidia GTX 970 is “Optimal”?

Hi folks,

As of February 10, 2026, Windows 10 and 11 both received new updates- KB5075912 for Windows 10 and KB5077181 for Windows 11. Please feel free to visit the linked articles to support.Microsoft.com for more information regarding these updates, including installation directions.

If you’re still experiencing freezes on this latest update, please let us know and confirm your current Windows update (as your PC does not report this information to Zwift).

Hi Support. Attached is my update history. I have Win11 24H2 26100.7840. My graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M. Unfortunately, Zwift still freezes a few seconds after pressing “Let’s Go.” The latest update, KB5077181, is installed. I can no longer uninstall the KB5074109 update, which merged with the system. However, there are posts in this thread that even reinstalling the entire Win11 installation doesn’t solve the problem because Microsoft has already built some of the changes introduced by KB5074109 into Win11, and even pausing the update doesn’t solve the problem.

Hi @Rowdy

I am still having issues even with all the latest updates. Screenshots as below:

Windows Updates

CPU & GPU Specs:

Point where the programme freezes and needs to be forced close:

The same point where the system freezes…a second earlier…The Zwift startup music starts playing.

My issues still continuning since mid Jan- Think I’ve exhausted all troubleshooting steps I can think of.

My original desktop PC I started zwifting with in 2016 now retired (office use only now) I use for planning rides/watching.etc.

Win10 22H2 os-19045.6937 (KB5075912) i7 3770k, GTX970, Intel HD4000, 8gig ram

Using the GTX970-This freezes on loading Wartopia screen when selecting just watch, if I select any ride or run it’ll freeze on whatever world loading screen, Zwift runs fine with Intel HD4000

Main PC I built just for Zwift is an i5-12400f, RTX2070, 16Gig ram,

W11 25H2 os- 26200.7840 KB5077181, clean installed two weeks ago, gpu driver is 577.00 studio driver a known stable driver, I’ve tried the latest and 581..s game ready and studio drivers.

I’m getting random black screens with this one, sometimes after 40min+ sometimes while in the menu, yesterday it blackscreened after finishing a ride while in the menu, today it happened in the menu just after reinstalling Zwift

I’ve run various PC stress tests without errors, I’ve tried Passmark Burntest 11.0.

Max CPU Temp, Max GPU Test, CPU coverage test, 6 cycle RAM test, 2D graphics memory, 3D fullscreen graphics test, pretty much everything apart from a 24h test.

Tried Unigine Superposition stress tests, they max everything out no errors, HWiNFO shows all temperatures are well within safe limits.

What can I do now is Zwift, Windows or my PC the problem?

I’m surprised your main PC is having trouble. I have that exact same combo of a 12400f, RTX2070 and 16Gb ram. Only difference is I’m on Win10 and I have an older driver - 572.83

Have you shared a TrainerDX report and described the problems in the ZPCMR group on Facebook? That would be another good place to find lots of people with similar hardware and good Zwift + PC knowledge. If you’re not familiar with the group, be sure to read the files first or you may get a frosty reception.
