Zwift freezing during startup and locking Windows [January 2026]

Hey John, thanks for the update. I have the exact same setup — Windows 10 and an Nvidia 970. I’ve tried almost everything, but still no results. Hopefully you’ll find a solution soon.

You should first check whether Zwift is actually running on the Nvidia GeForce and not on the integrated graphics card.

I also have this problem, since KB5074109 can no longer be uninstalled on Win11, I tried to use the latest available Windows patches and now running Win 11 Build 26200.7705 in conjunction with NVidia driver 582.28 on a GeForce 930 MX. The crashes seem to be load dependent for me, I could load NYC, London, Yorkshire. But Watopia always crashes in way so that I need to do a hard reset of the laptop. It might be a coincidence but I also experienced no problems until Zwift 1.106.0 rolled out. At least I haven’t found a solid workaround (other then disabling the adapter), so any new advice is welcome.

Might be this model of GPU, others with 960 and 970s also still have issues.

Same problems here. Windows 10 with GTX 960m.

Zwift would freeze and then disappear on the initial loading screen.

Deleting previous Windows update solved the problem temporarily.

But the new update (KB5073724) has brought the problem back.

I have just disabled the graphics card in Device Manager and so far so good.

I was having the same issue with Zwift freezing at the load screen running on my Alienware Alpha R1 which uses a GTX 860M based GPU. Rolling back the windows update solved the issue, I have not tried any of the later updates yet.

You need to first uninstall KB5074105 (this corresponds to 26200.7705). Then reboot, and you should be able to uninstall KB5074109.

Another “me too” for removing KB5073724 on Win10 with NVIVIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti:

  • Zwift locked up on the blue loading screen (changing messages is VERY slow, then hard-lockup)
  • Removing Nvidia drivers for M$ ones didn’t help (despite EoL hardware) - lockup
  • Adding back Nvidia drivers didn’t help - lockup
  • Win10 fully patched under extended support 2026-02-05
  • Removed KB5073724, rebooted, Zwift runs fine

Took delivery of my Jetblack Victory today. Excited to fire it up and get riding but cannot get past the blue loading screen!! Just freezes and says not responding. Windows 11, Build 26200.7705, Windows Update KB5074105. Have tried pretty much everything on this thread (including rolling back updates to when I bought the laptop) and wasted almost a whole day but still made no progress. Laptop is only 2 months old, AMD Ryzen AI Max+ Pro395 with Radeon 8060s graphics, 128GB RAM, SSD’s etc so all powerful stuff. Assumed it would be flying but sadly not. Feeling really deflated and presumably if there is no fix I will have to face the prospect of investing more money to buy a tablet or something just to play???

I’m unsure if you are experiencing the same problem as described in this topic. You should probably send logs to support. I think you’re having the same problem as @Jackson_Halupnik

Yes….that is exactly the screen I get to with the same ‘log-in type shadow’ in the ‘Z’ and virtually same spec laptop. Will jump onto the other thread. Thanks :+1:

You could probably make this work by, 1) uninstalling Windows Update KB5074105, 2) rebooting, 3) uninstalling KB5074109 (this will not be available to uninstall until you first uninstall KB5074105 and reboot), 4) reboot again. The root problem appears to be KB5074109 and you have to get rid of that update to resolve this issue.

Thanks Jeff, I dont have KB5074109 installed. I am on KB5074105

You can’t see …109 before uninstalling …105, read what @Jeffrey_D wrote.

Thanks @Milan_Rost but i have tried that multiple times and 100% I do not have the KB5074109 update. I only have KB5074105.

For what its worth my laptop received another Windows update last night (KB5074105) and I hoped that would have sorted it……but made no difference. Am waiting on support to see what they say.

KB5074105 is the latest update 29.012026

Zwift Support can’t find a solution and ends the report by telling me to reinstall Win11 and disable updates. It’s ridiculous. Unfortunately, the KB5074109 update has integrated into my system and I can’t remove it. Reinstalling Windows isn’t easy for me. For now, I’ve switched from an Nvidia graphics card to an integrated one. The quality is worse and the maximum resolution is Full HD. Finding a solution requires cooperation between Microsoft, Nvidia, and Zwift. Something is blocking the graphics card and GPU. This has been going on for a month, and Zwift Support isn’t involved in finding a solution.

Hi, unfortunately have the same problem and nearly sam experience with the support.

Re Installed Windows 11 2x on my PC. This does not solve the problem with Zwift and the geforce cards. Even you reinstall windows, windows will automatically download the newest version. So you will have the same problems without having the possibility to reinstall the older versions, as described here in the forum. Since more than one week struggling with zwift and no realy help from Zwift i’m realy disappointed about zwift. Meanwhile I tried Rovy and it works on my PC without any problems. Why is Rovy able to work on the new Windows Version and Zwift isn‘t able to find a solution.

After a few weeks of running fine my Zwift starting crashing again on startup, I assume the latest windows updates cause this issue.

I can’t be bothered trying to roll back Windows updates again so just going to revert to running Zwift on a tablet instead.

Running Windows 11 and Nvidia GPU which seems to be the cause of these issues.
