Last night TDZ stg 5. Joined via CA app couple hrs before, logged on and started riding 16 mins before, all good, Join Event appeared around 15mins before start.
Thanks for post, my IPV4 setting was high on comcast modem so setting to medium (typical) solved it and now I can join rides. Didn’t get answer from Zwift tech support and traded emails with them over 3 days
Did this issue ever get resolved?
I had the same problem from the PC and the Companion App last night.
Yes see the post above.
This is still happening. Infrequently, but still. And no rhyme nor reason as far as I can tell.
This happened to me on 1/14/20 for the 6 PM BSC Chasing the sun race. I had originally signed up using ZCA . I was in the game and warming up but when I did not get a prompt to join the event, I closed the game and restarted and again selected the race.
No indication to join again but there was a join button in the lower left that disappeared after 5-10 secs.
Closed the game and restarted and selected the race.
This time, since the race was going to start in 3 minutes, I immediately clicked the “join” button that only momentary appeared in the lower left corner.
I went to the pen and the race went off without a hitch but there were fewer riders than usual.
No, wasn’t going to mess with setting as it happens so infrequently. As an aside, I wish they could have a setting whereby you tell it to Join Race X minutes before start. I hate sitting at the starting line so I push it to the limit. Would be nice to just have it dump me in from a free ride like 1 minute prior to start.
If you are riding before the event the join event button will start a count down at about 5min but you can select not yet and wait till the last minute, BUT then you have the potential to miss the start, it my take some time to go from one world to the other and it gets longer as more people want to get into the event.
It may be ok for small events but for something like TdZ I would say join at least 5 min before the start.
I have had similar experiences. I missed the start of the stage 1 D race at 7 ish on 1/14/2020 because when I signed in it was the A group. I joined and waited thinking there would be a count down through the groups but that never happened. I had to quit and reschedule the event at 8:10 pm, but to be honest I am not sure how the sign up actually works. Then again on the stage 2 race D on 1/16/2020 I missed the 7:13 pm start even though I was at the line 15 minutes ahead and I joined the event it was unfortunately the A group. I waited and waited in Zwift waiting for a group B, group C and group D counter to occur but it never did. i exited and resigned up for the stage 2 race D at 813pm. I always register through the ZCA. This time I was ready 10 minutes in advance and I saw the B group was up so I quit the event. It looks like the logic is you have to select Ride within a few minutes of the actual group then quit out until your group appears. this is really not intuitive and quite annoying. my initial thoughts were all groups must ride together and I would just accept finishing last in the A group do to my age and power. But through monkeying around I was able to get in the D group but to be certain I have no idea how I did it and will probably struggle with next weeks stage 3 race.
In summary, there needs to be a clearer indicator or mechanism telling you what to do if you are not in the A group. Some way to exit the A group and get in the D group or some way to easily exit out through the A, B, and C groups so you end up in the D group for the race.
I am using Zwift on an iphone with and HDMI cable to my big screen. I am using ZCA on an ipad to schedule. I do see the event I registered for on the zwift screen on the top left as I am getting ready to ride and I see the minute count down. I just need some kind of way to exit out of the A group and other groups and eventually join the D race group w/o it being hit or miss. Otherwise, the 2020 Zwift stage racing is cool.
I have signed up for the stage 3 D race on 1/20/2020. I know the race is listed in the ZCA as starting at 710pm which is the A group. the D group is at 7:13. I will be ready at 7:10 warming up but will probably screw up again because if I join I will be in the A group and if I don’t join the the race I am not sure if I will get an invite to join the D group. Therefore my back up in the 810 race. In any event I am sure it will be a crap shoot without explicit instructions on how to joint the right group, ugh!

Hi Bob, Welcome to the zwift forum.
when you sign up for the event use the companion app, try to sign up before even opening the Zwift app on your Iphone.
when you select a event you will see this screen, select the category you want to ride and it will show a green check mark.
Now open zwift on your iphone and start riding, 10 min before the event is a good time. You should see join event in blue bottom left of your screen. Click that about 5min before the start. You will be transported to the start pen with your fellow category riders. You will see your start group indicated top right.
Thanks Gerrie, am reading your tips on how to start. I do use the ZCA to sign up for the right group by selecting the “+” in the D group. This is what I have selected for Monday’s race on 1/20/2020 as well.
I am understand what you are saying but I do have a question. in the stage races that start at 710 and 810. the A groups go off at this time and the other groups go off in 1 min intervals with the D group going off at 713 or 813 depending on what race I decide to race. If I understand you tips in the attached article I should be able to get set up and spin at 7 or 8 pm and just say no thanks to the pop up until within a minute or so of the D group, correct? The timing of the join is critical it seems because you only have a minute between groups and if you screw up you have to start over again. I am hoping there is sufficient visual notice that I will see the D group indicator. If I am recalling from last night, I was signed up in the D group with three minutes before the D group left. I was spinning and watching the clock count down. I wish I could recall what process I used to get in the blocks 3 minutes in advance?
Fingers crossed for Monday night.

No it is not critical, once you get the message (like you posted) click lets go. then you will go to the start pen and wait for the ride to start. It will be about 4-5min of waiting in the pen you will see the count down like in the image I posted.
Zwift will put you with all the D riders and you will start together.
Let me know if you have more questions, riding in a group is fun.
check this out:
Thanks for response.
Yes Gerrie I think the issue is terminology and granularity. Does the pop-up box refer to join the event, i.e. the race in general and the button on the left “Join Event” refer to joining the group? Just my opinion, but, if we had more clarity between joining the race event followed by joining the group, we may get more riders. Just a thought. So “your event is about to start” would refer to the race starting and change the wording on the bottom right button to, Join Group (A, B, C, D, etc.) Just thinking out loud.
Am interested in your thoughts
Bob
Join event refer to join the event you enrolled to, you already decided what event and what category you wanted to join when you selected the event.
I also found this vid by Shane.
Thanks Gerrie

Good luck on your next race. Please report back.
I will. Will see how it goes on Monday.

Sorry Gerrie I forgot what thread we were on so I sent my feedback to you directly about last night’s race. Not sure if you can post/paste here or not. It may be helpful to others. I will continue to monitor. Your help and advice is much appreciated.
thanks

Hi Gerrie,
Sorry I could not find our previous thread.
I followed your suggestions and this is how I got into the stage 3 D race last night a 713.
I signed up for the 710 race and the 810 race using 810 as a backup using ZCA
I did a ride in new york (it was a default route) without any joining to warm up. I quit that ride after a few minutes.
I did a watopia ride on the same route of the 710 race and I did see the count down counter in the bottom left that seemed to correspond to my 713 start. I did not join at this time but watched the counter.
At around 700 or so but definately by 710 the pop up appeared at the middle bottom. As you suggested I chose No Thanks. the join button on the bottom left remained as did the counter.
I continued to watch the timer on the bottom left and it seemed to reflect my 713 group D start time.
With just under two minutes left like around 1:57 or so I pressed the join button
This put me in the starting blocks for Group D and the count down till the start.
I had a successful race.
This process worked last night. I will try it again for stage 4 which I have signed up for on Friday 24. I elected the 710 and 810 times in the ZCA with the 810 as a backup.
What I can’t recall is if the count down timer was in the bottom left on my new york warm up ride or not. It would be nice if it were then I could join from there without having to put myself in the actual race circuit which, sometimes is not there. I can’t recall which stage it was now but I could not warmup on the actual course prior to the stage race.
I will try riding a separate course on Friday and see if it does the switch for me.
Also I got an email from support regarding a request I had sent to them prior to contacting you. In my response to them I suggested adding an element to the count down timer on the left to make it more clear what the time is for. Perhaps adding the grouping indicator (D) in the timer area on the left would make it more clear. the reason I suggest this, is the central pop up with the OK and No Thanks seems to want to place you in the first group of the race the A group (for either 710 or 810 starts). At least that is what it appeared happened to me and thus left me stuck in the A group which I had to abandon several times during stage 1 before I gave up.
This is what started the entire conversation.
Thanks for your help
Bob
You are more than welcome. Glad you got into the race.
Yes the Join even button will show if you are in another world. It will show about 15min before the race some even show 30min.
I would suggest not waiting till 2 min to go, some of these rides are big and it can take some time to get to the start.
