Hey Everyone. I am having problems getting the Zwift Companion to find my Kickr Core on my phone. The issue is the companion app is not finding the device. The rest of the bridge connection is fine (Like the Zwift Click). I can also get everything to work on other devices, but want to switch to a new device that needs the Bridge set up.
Key things I have tried or checked:
-Zwift app (Main program) can find the Kickr Core on my phone with both Bluetooth and ANT with no issues.
-Zwift Companion can find the Zwift Click no problem
-I have closed and even forgotten the Kickr with the Wahoo App
-I have reinstalled the Zwift Companion App, checked for firmware updates for the Kickr Core and restarted the phone. Also closed all apps running in the background including the main Zwift App
-I have shut down all possible devices that can connect to the Kickr (Computer, Garmin Watch, etc.)
-I have also stopped all other bluetooth devices to the phone.
-I made sure the Companion App had permission/location to find devices
-Also turned the Kickr on and off multiple times
Anyone have any insight into why ONLY the Zwift Companion app can’t find the Kickr Core (Believe V6), but instantly is found by everything else with no issues. Is it not supported?
Thanks
Extra Note - I am trying to get Zwift to work on Linux and have the rest of the issues solved except for the Companion App. I am tired of having to dual boot my computer to Windows only for Zwift.
I found a work around with an old phone. It appears to be a connection issue with the new Wifi Standards of 6 vs 6e. Wifi 6 devices on the 2.4ghz + 5ghz will work with wifi 5 device on the 5ghz frequency only, but my phone supports 6e and goes to the 6ghz frequency. I’ll have to find a way to disable 6ghz on the phone or upgrade my wifi 5 card. Its tough when devices call wifi 6 and 6e the same thing. Figured it out after disabling the 6ghz on the router
That sounds like a “feature” of your router rather than a wifi standards thing. It sounds like your router isn’t letting devices on the 6GHz network see devices on the other network. I strongly doubt that the wifi standards say that Wifi 6e devices aren’t allowed to see non-6e devices.
Zwift says it has to be on the same frequency… like 2.4ghz OR 5ghz. But now with wifi 6, its more complicated since some combine 2.4 with 5ghz (wifi 6), but 6e devices support the 6ghz range. Technically each frequency is a different wifi network.
When I disabled my 6ghz frequency on my router, my phone still said wifi 6 (never says wifi6e). Then it would allow Zwift companion to connect properly. After turning 6ghz back on, it stops working. My laptop is still wifi 5 meaning its only 5ghz
That’s an oversimplification and isn’t really true, but it’s certainly been said nevertheless. All that’s needed is for your Companion device and your game app device to be able to see each other on the same local network (e.g. at your house). How your router chooses to handle that depends on your router. Typically there’s no problem with devices on different frequency networks seeing each other.
We appreciate that you shared your concern about getting the issues with the Zwift Companion to find my Kickr Core. This is Haziel from Zwift Support.
As it was mentioned, one of the main reasons why there could be connectivity issues is that the device you’re running Zwift on and the device you’re running the ZC app on should be on the same network, including the same 2.4 GHz/5 GHz band.
I highly recommend you check this article: Issues with Zwift Companion App, which provides information about the main reasons why the Zwift Companion might be giving connectivity issues.
