Zwift Clubs - dead in the water?

I hope so

I will add my comment here that I put in another “Feature Request” (Custom Workouts in Club Events) thread: I 100% agree with others frustration here. I am part of a club that rides IRL in the warmer months and does a weekly club ride in the winter to stay in touch. The limited workout choice on club rides is very frustrating. The evident lack of any response from Zwift on this topic (if only to confirm if clubs are indeed ‘dead in the water’ or if there is any plan to implement improvements) is frustrating. If they can load 59 workouts into the club event selector, why can they not load the entire workout catalog? So, just adding my voice to this thread, which appears to be the most recent iteration of the same request to Zwift.

I’m sure by now that the “Improve Clubs” note on someone’s To-Do whiteboard has become part of the background that gets ignored/overloooked, just like the sign on the door at work reminding you to turn off the coffee pot and lights. It just blends in.

I still have hope, though I won’t hold my breath.

Just to continue bringing this topic up, look at how much Strava has been investing in their clubs features. They have been adding new features pretty regularly, and the tools are getting better and better. The new announcements section actually lets you post links now, something Strava had been missing/not allowing for a long time.

Zwift, take notice!

Zwift Clubs needs love!

It does baffle me the the one thing that makes zwift better than other platforms is the community but the clubs features is so lacking. not been touched in years.

Only a theory, but behind the firewall of clubs, it hides the participation and conversation. In itself, this might be perceived as then hiding the levels of engagement and participation. ie. if too much activity is devoted to clubs, and all discussion to pertaining to such is relegated to club sub-forums and FB pages… then it didn’t happen.

No they actually really like club engagement and want more of it. Companion app features related to clubs have lacked investment but it’s not because they think that would be a bad thing.

That does not really follow, as right now all my club communication is via 3rd party apps as the in game clubs messaging is awful.

If it had a few key features like able to tag people, reply to messages so you get notified correctly it will be a great improvement.

The ones I know all use external apps for communications, rather than Zwift clubs messaging.

They have a lot more functions like virtual meetings, etc.

I don’t see any mention of the inability to set up a club race. I suppose it’s a lack of CA app development since the CA is the only mechanism for setting up a club event (eg. there’s never been webpage or in-game ability to do this).

At the same time, couldn’t popular clubs and/or their events, compete with the public calendar? If invisible club participation dilutes the number of signups to public community events, which in turn leads to those events getting pulled out of the schedule, then to new Zwifters, it runs the risk of not showing a large variety of events.

Very few complete with the hourly zhq events.

Some series do get good numbers likes of Sisu on right now. plus private stuff like Dirt, ERCO etc

but in general the weekly club events have reduced in numbers since zmonthly started. While not a bad thing as zmonthly stuff gets a lot of people into racing i dont think its the best first time user experience to racing. It would be interesting to pull stats on how many riders only do those races or only do those races and dont race again.

Zwift’s purpose isn’t to promote one type of event over another. Whatever gets people tightly attached to the product is going to serve their purposes. If clubs do that then they can simply choose to promote clubs. (And I don’t think their public events are in any way threatened by successful clubs.)

What I find worst, though, is that for years there hasn’t been any statement from the official Zwift team in either direction, despite being asked countless times. It’s honestly very disappointing and quite poor.

we can only hope.

In a few months on the north hemisphere the zwift season starts again and many riders will show up to start zwifting again after being away/outside for a couple of months.
Perhaps we will be pleasently surpriced with some updates.
But like I said before I won’t hold my breath, when I see what the updates brought the last couple of months, it’s mostly superficial/cosmetic and not much fundamental or even inovating.

But I like to be surpriced, so let see if we hear something from the Zwift team.
Be it “we do nothing” or “we are still working on it”. Either way, it would be nice to know where we stand.

We should…
