Zwift Click firmware update failed [April, 2024] [SOLVED]

I snooped in on your most recent logs. It looks like you’re pairing your trainer over ANT+. You’ll want to pair over bluetooth in order to use virtual shifting. Please let me know if you still can’t pair Click once your trainer is paired via bluetooth.

Interestingly, I can connect to Click via BT while my trainer is connected via Ant+. However, there are two “connections to the trainer.”

One is the connection to the trainer as the Power Source - that’s the one I can connect via Ant+ and still be able to connect to Click via BT.

The other is the connection to the trainer as the Controllable device - that’s the one I have to connect via BT in order to be able to connect to Click via BT. I fact if I do this, and then click on “Controllable” (thus disconnecting the Controllable device), the Click also simultaneously disconnects.

I mention this not just to be contrary, but because I keep reading that “you HAVE TO connect the trainer via BT in order to detect and connect Click” In fact, there may be reasons why you should connect the trainer (Power Source) via Ant+ - smarter people than me have suggested that too many devices connected via BT can jam up the signal. I have no idea if they are correct.

Hi Rowdy,
Thanks for the reply. I’ve tried what you said & it’s made no difference unfortunately. Zwift sees the Click, as it appears in the ‘Controls’ box on the pairing screen, & says ‘Connecting…’, but never connects. If you proceed into the game the gear is shown in the top left as ‘12’ & there is a ‘Connection Failure’ message in the top left too. The bluetooth light on the Click is extinguished when in game, but clicking on it does nothing.
Regards
Rob

Let me be sure I understand what I need to do to make the Click give me virtual shifting. My trainer and all devices are working perfectly and, if I understand correctly, I need to switch from a fully functional ANT+ connect to BT for everything. I didn’t notice anything in the Click presales that said I needed to use BT for the Click to work properly. I hate to change what’s working to “try” to get the Click to work. Tell me if I misunderstand the suggested path. If the Click can’t connect via BT or ANT+ without impacting my previous connections I’m prone to abandon the Click and ask for my money back. Please let me know if I’m understanding things properly. I have both ANT+ and BT already working on the PC and would I need to click the “Pair through Phone” option? Thanks again.

You don’t have to pair by phone, but you have to use Bluetooth. If that’s a deal breaker then send it back.

ANT+ protocol does not transmit the necessary data between your trainer and Zwift in order to operate virtual shifting, so you’d need to pair your trainer over bluetooth if you wanted to use the virtual shifting feature. You can pair your trainer and Click either over bluetooth or via Zwift Companion using the pair through phone option and virtual shifting should work fine either way. This would not affect whether you prefer to use an ANT+ heart rate monitor, cadence sensor, or power meter.

I hope that helps clarify things!

You’ve been very helpful and I’m comfortable using the Click on BT as long as the other sensors can stay on ANT+. That’s great.
So, on my laptop I’ve had both ANT+ and BT active, but still the CLICK is not detected when I go to add CONTROLS. I even unplugged my ANT+ dongle and left the BT active. Now when I go to add sensors it doesn’t even show CONTROLS, only Power Source and Speed Sensor. I’d prefer not to go through my phone, but how do I get to the add Click with only BT active? Obviously I’m missing something.

I want to clarify that the Click will not pair if there is no compatible smart trainer paired to Zwift over bluetooth. If you have a Zwift Hub or a Kickr Core, Move, or V6 with the latest firmware installed, your trainer is compatible with the Click and virtual shifting, but you’ll have to pair the trainer to Zwift over bluetooth.

If you pair in the following order, you’ll be able to try out virtual shifting and see if it’s a good fit for you:

  1. Select Power and pair your trainer over bluetooth
  2. Select Resistance and pair your trainer over bluetooth
  3. Select Controls and pair your Click over bluetooth
  4. Pair any other fitness devices as you normally would. As long as your trainer’s resistance channel remains paired over bluetooth, you’ll have the ability to enable virtual shifting.

If you have any issues afterwards, please reach out to us in Support and we can provide some 1:1 assistance.

Hi Rowdy. Thanks for your help on this. So I have now paired my Kickr via bluetooth for power & resistance & can now see the Click & it pairs OK & works in game. Interestingly there is no longer the button in the menu to select ‘virtual shifting’. Prior to the software update I had the Kickr connected via Ant+ & the Click connected perfectly OK over bluetooth.

Hi Rob, If you’re having issues toggling virtual shifting on or off, you may want to reach out to Support for some direct assistance. The option will not appear if you don’t have a compatible smart trainer paired.

In regards to the ANT+ pairing method, I can see that your Power and Cadence were connected over ANT+, but your Click was only able to pair when your trainer’s Resistance signal was paired over bluetooth. While it is possible to split your trainer’s signal across both bluetooth and ANT+, we don’t recommend doing so.
