Zwift click connection failures

I was gifted for my birthday, December 2025, the Wahoo Kickr Core 2 with Zwift Cog and Click.

The initial connection of the clicks failed, i changed the batteries for new Duracell batteries and they immediately showed up in the companion app and i performed the firmware update.

Over 3 days i performed 3 different rides, no connection problems.

Yesterday i was due to take part in an event.

I logged into Zwift on my Mac and the only things not to connect were the clicks. I logged out restarted the Mac.
While waiting i opened the Companion App, Clicks connected (Already showing 30% battery use on the left click and 20% battery usuage on the right click) (image provided)
I checked there wasnt a firware update needed again and all seemed fine. (image provided)
I logged into Zwift again on the Mac everything connected except the clicks.
I logged out of companion app and restarted my phone.
I logged out of Zwift and logged back in.
Clicks didnt connect.

The event had started by now so i had resigned myself to missing that.

40 minutes of various attempts to get the clicks to connect and nothing happened.

Eventually i went and got the other 2 new Duracell batteries and started to unscrew the battery holder. As i did the left click ‘blue light’ was flashing and went solid blue. I screwed it backup.
I started to unscrewed the right click the ‘blue light’ was flashing and then went solid, i screwed them back up. (Image provided)

I looked at Zwift on my Mac and they had now connected.

I began an open ride in London and the left click would shift down but the right click wouldnt shift up.

I restarted Zwift everything connected, i joined a ride in Watopia both Click’s operated as normal and i cycled alomng with everything working fine for 90 minutes, but 1 hour had passed of me trying to get things working and an event i wanted to do was long finished.

This morning at 06:30 i logged into Zwift to enter an event at 07:00, can you guess what happened?
This time to try and join the event i immediately began to unscrew the battery holder, nothing happened like yesterday. I inserted new batteries into both click’s, neither would connect to the Companion App or Zwift.

Another event missed, another connection error.

So these Click’s connected fine for the first 3 rides and now they are flaky and cannot be relied upon to enter an event. There has been no changes on anything hadrware related.

Other than the Wahoo trainer and the clicks (Both have firmware updated) my hardware is
MacBook Pro M2 chip, Sequoia15.7.3 (24G419)
Samsung S25

Hi @Graham_Gibbs_2979, this is Haziel from Zwift.

Thanks for sharing a detailed rundown of what’s been happening with your clicks. It really helps paint the full picture. I can understand that you have spent so much time troubleshooting. I will be happy to share a few things you might want to try, based on what’s worked for others:

  • Even with new batteries, the Clicks can sometimes lose contact if the cap isn’t screwed in firmly. I recommend you to take a look at this.

  • Instead of pairing the Clicks directly to your Mac, try connecting them through the Zwift Companion App on your phone. This has helped stabilize BLE connections. I will share this article that might help you with this.

  • Please make sure the Clicks are close to your Zwift device. BLE signal strength drops quickly with distance, and keeping them within a meter or two can make a difference.

  • On your Mac, * resetting Zwift’s game preferences can clear out corrupted pairing data. This step is useful when devices suddenly stop connecting.

If you have any more questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Thanks Haziel

The Mac and the bike are less than 1 meter away from one another.

I will double check the screws at the back of the clicks but as these worked fine on 3 consecutive days and then worked fine yesterday when i started to unscrew them i am assuming they are done up tight but again i will check this.

The clicks seem to connect to the Companion app normally, not 100% consistent but more so than on the Mac however they sometimes take several attempts to wake them up.

And i will reset the game preferences on the Mac

The screws at the back of the click’s are tight, any tighter and i will round off the pathetic heads.

Resetting Zwift’s game preferences enabled the left click to connect but the right click, despite being solid blue, wouldnt shift up and none of the buttons would work. I again removed the battery, tightened everything up, came out the event i had scheduled myself to go in. Neither click would connect to the Companion App.

I restarted the phone and the Mac, none of the products were seen by the game on the Mac, i reselcted everything and the Clicks worked.

I will try again today but the confidence levels of turning up to an event 15mins before it starts to do a gentle warmup appears compromised as the Clicks seem unbelieviably flaky at connecting to the Game or the Companion App and there is no guarantee you can get everything working prior to the event starting, without some lengthy intervention.

So far not impressed with the clicks.

Hi, I have a similar issue connecting the clicks. I upgraded last week from an Elite trainer with Play controllers to a Kickr Core 2 with Zwift cog and click. They have connected but mainly do not wake up when pressed and do not connect. I am using Apple TV and use the trainer as a bridge for the click. Any advice would be great as I am struggling to connect the controllers. Thanks, Kev.

Any difference if you use the Companion app as a bridge instead?

I use a Mac and the only way i can fix this issue is every now and then to do the following
To reset your Zwift preferences on a Mac, complete these steps:

  1. Close Zwift.

  2. Open Finder.

  3. Select Documents.

  4. Select Zwift.

  5. Delete the following files:

    • knowndevices.xml

    • prefs.xml

Using the CA as a bridge seems a very backward solution to me, the products should work on whatever device you are using.

For other devices see the reset guide provided by Zwift support on Jan 5th.

I wouldn’t call it a solution as much as a troubleshooting step or workaround. Since @Kevin_Hargreaves is on Apple TV, he can’t just delete the config files and would need to remove and reinstall the app to achieve the same. On Apple TV I would also verify that the trainer is paired via Bluetooth and not WiFi, and I would try pairing the Click without using any bridge (ie, only pair the trainer and Click, do not pair any HRM since that would require using a bridge) and see if that is more stable.

Thanks for the reply Paul. Looks like it is sorted but I will keep your workaround in the back pocket. Cheers. Kev
