What does the 23m mean?

In this image just below my avatar is a gold marker telling me D Bernie is 40m behind me. Just above my avatar is the Let D Bernie catch up line indicating 23m. What does the 23m mean/indicate?

I think it indicates a mess, why is it meters if you selected imperial? Should not be feet?

Maybe 23 meters is the distance you need to close to eliminate the message.

I think the 23m means to the ā€œbubbleā€ where your drops multiplier will continue.
And the distances for closing the gap and to other riders shows in meters for me as well, even though I have imperial for distance and elevation.

My drops multiplier is unaffected by this.

It will be if you stay outside the radius too long and dont let the robo pacer catch up.

I’ve watched this, thinking there is this bubble you’re talking about. The math doesn’t work. I’ve watched it, looking for it to work. I can’t make heads or tails of it. Is the 23m what I need to be within? Is the 23m the distance I need to let the Robo pacer close the gap? My observation is that there is no consistency. I’ve yet to find a resource within Zwift explaining what that 23m means. If you know where this information is found on the platform I’d be most appreciative if you provide a link to it. Thanks in advance.

The radius increases proportionally with the size of the group, hence no consistency.

I’m sure this is explained somewhere on zwiftinsider.com

I’ve searched and searched the platform. My last gasp effort is asking on this open forum. I can’t find anything addressing my question. It’s frustrating. Based on responses here, other riders are down to imaginative mind invention. That’s not intended as any slight. We all see it, and we all try to find (read) sense into it. If anyone can link to a solid answer on the Zwift platform it would be most appreciated. Thanks.

I don’t - stopped it some years ago. It’s not only Zwift…
It’s good for my soul and I have more free time for cycling.

This has been raised before on the forum, especially when the size of the Drops ā€œbubbleā€ was increased.

The 23m figure is the distance back to the front of that Drops bubble, i.e. when you count as being in the group again.

Randy,

Chill out, my friend. Just soft pedal to let Bernie get closer and it’ll go away.

If you’re married, you must know that not everything can or should be explained or understood.

I love the lighthearted responses here, and they are understood as the good advice they offer. But sometimes boredom sets in and mentally I’m looking for something to occupy myself. It’s part of how I enjoy my activity. No more than that. Thanks to all.

Hi @Randy_Jensen, Thank you for using the Zwift Forums!
Fernanda here, part of the support specialist team at Zwift.

I appreciate that you brought this question to our forums, I will be glad to try to answer the best possible, first I would like you to check the numbers I placed in the picture, for me to explain:
image
In this picture you shared, you can identify:

  • The number 1 represents the RoboPacer beacon.
  • The number 2 is the distance in meter, the front of Bernie’s Drops zone is 23m behind you.
  • The number 3 represents you.
  • The number 4 is the name of the RoboPacer.

Hope this help to clarify the question!

Ride On.

Thanks for your response. In the moment of that image my rate of drops remains at the 1.4 ratio. This is what makes no sense.

that will increase the longer you stay with the pacer, the yellow bar fills up and it goes to the next multiplier

I always took it as more of a warning that you’re on the edge of the bubble and you should let the pacer get closer as you’re risking losing the multiplier.

Yes. I’m aware that it increases. The point I was making is, in the image I shared, I’m still receiving ā€œdropsā€ at the rate of 1.4-to-1 despite supposedly being well beyond ā€˜Bernie’s Drops zone 23m behind me’. Hence the explanation given above can’t be right.

The other factor is time. It takes time to lose the multiplier even if you go out of range of the pacer. It’s a warning that you need to take action to preserve the multiplier.
