Wattbike ERG via BT not working

HI, after some tech advice please as struggling to identify the issue.

Set up: Wattbike NG, Windows PC. Connect WB via BT, HRM via Ant+.

Issue: Workouts in ERG no longer change resistance

I updated to the latest Zwift version when rolled out last week. Since then I can’t get ERG to work when connected via BT. ERG mode is shown as activated but as the power targets change, resistance doesn’t. If I connect the WB via Ant+ ERG mode works, but the power is very unsteady, not a fan.

I have tried the following:
Uninstalled the beta firmware on the Wattbike and reverted to stable firmware. Turned off ERG power smoothing on the Wattbike - and also reinstalled and turned power smoothing back on. Shut down all systems multiple times, switched connections mid workout.

I’m at a loss. ERG via BT connection has been really solid, so keen to get it back.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Tom

Is this only an issue on Zwift? I have an early Atom NG and had to have a sensor replaced to get ERG mode working correctly. The tech guy who came out and fitted the new sensor said the earliest next gens suffered from ERG mode failing due to poor quality sensors that were updated.

If your ERG mode is working fine on other platforms, I cant give any other advice sorry.

Thanks Daniel. I did try a workout on the WB Hub and that works fine. Also uninstalled Zwift and reinstalled.

Oddly, if i use the WB beta firmware it picks up cadence and power but just doesnt control the power in relation to the target. After a few seconds of pedalling i get a zwift message saying something like ‘ERG disconnecting’ then the resistance goes through the roof.

Very strange. If ERG via Ant+ wasn’t so shaky i wouldn’t be bothered.

Hi @Tom_Stead, thank you for posting. I’m Gian from Zwift.

I’m sorry that you’re having issues with ERG mode when connecting via Bluetooth. I appreciate you detailing the troubleshooting steps you’ve taken.

As a quick test, please try the following:

  1. Install Zwift on your phone.
  2. In case you’re on the beta firmware again, revert to the stable version.
  3. Open Zwift and pair your Wattbike via Bluetooth.
  4. Go for a workout with ERG mode on.

Does the issue also happen when running Zwift on your phone after following the steps above?

Hi, thanks for the reply and sorry for taking a while to get back to you.

Just tried connecting via Zwift on my Android but its the same issue.

Also tried connecting via Companion with Zwift on my PC but that doesn’t work either.

Hi @Tom_Stead, thank you for following the steps and trying with the Zwift Companion app.

Now that you’re on the stable firmware version, please try to set zero states on your Wattbike as described here. Then attempt a workout again.

If the issue persists I think the best is to open a support ticket for you. Please let me know how that goes so I can assist you further.

Thanks @Gian, i think that has done the trick.

Will try again tomorrow just to confirm but the zero state reset might have worked.

Hi @Tom_Stead, sounds great! Please let us know how that goes for you tomorrow.

@Gian A new dawn and all sorted. Thanks for your help resolving.

For anyone reading this with a similar issue it seems reverting to stable wattbike firmware and doing a zero state reset fixes it.
