Wattage Spikes Wattage hard

What I have:

Apple TV for Zwift
Wahoo Kickr Core One

Issue:

  1. Resistance feels much harder than the displayed wattage
  2. When riding in 150+ wattage the resistance gets so hard I cant spin the pedals and then it releases and gets real easy
  3. usually ride in ERG mode - do not use Clicker
  4. No other connections in room or close by
  5. firmware is up to date

Not exactly the same issue, but I have been experiencing the surges and slips you describe - one minute spinning, the next a resistance ā€œspikeā€ to the point I can hardly turn the pedals. Also, unrealistic power estimates. Wahoo Kickr Core + PC + Zwift Click. Itā€™s driving me round the bend, and have been seeking help for about a month now, with no solution at hand.

Wahoo referred me to Zwift so I hope we donā€™t get passed around.

To be fair to Wahoo, they sent me a replacement trainer. The problem is still there with the ā€œnewā€ (refurbed) trainer.

If youā€™re not using virtual shifting, it may help to turn it off manually in your preferences as explained at the link below. I was having a similar problem and it worked for me.

P.S. There is now a switch to turn it off in game, but it would automatically reset itself back to on in the background after each session, so I found manual shutoff was necessary.

Iā€™m having the problem while using the Click/virtual shifting, so I need to have virtual shifting enabled.

In that case I would encourage you to perform manual spin downs in Wahoo app frequently (once a week-ish). Something about Wahoo auto calibration and Zwift virtual shifting didnā€™t seem to play well together to me. Before I turned virtual shifting off, I did this and it seemed to help.
