Hello,
I hope you’re doing well.
I currently have a Wahoo KICKR V5, and I’m interested in setting it up on the Zwift Ride Smart Frame. Could you please confirm if the KICKR V5 is compatible with this setup and if there are any additional requirements or recommendations to ensure an optimal Zwift experience?
Thank you for your assistance.
The Zwift Ride is only partially compatible with the Kickr v5. The former relies on Zwift Virtual Shifting for simulated gear changes which you would want when doing free- or group rides on Zwift where the terrain results in changes in trainer resistance. Without virtual shifting this could become harsh at times. If you would only want to use the Zwift Ride and Kickr for doing e.g. workouts with ERG mode (the trainer resistance is controlled to deliver a certain power output) then you would not need any shifting at all.
Wahoos latest messaging is that the Kickr v5 (and v4) are not and will never support virtual shifting.
Hope this helps

Hi Magnus,
Thank you for the detailed explanation. I appreciate the clarification regarding the compatibility and the implications of not having Zwift Virtual Shifting with the KICKR V5. This definitely helps me understand the limitations and potential use cases better.
Thanks again
