Does Zwift Ride Smart Frame require a functional ERG-mode?

I have a relative who bought a second hand Wahoo Kickr Core last year without a functional ERG-mode, which they didn’t mind at the time, as they prefer to free wheel when riding.

They are now looking to buy a Zwift Ride Smart Frame, and are wondering if the ERG-mode is required in any way for the virtual gears to work properly? Will the missing ERG result in any funny business, or does it not matter if you don’t plan on doing ERG workouts anyway?

Thank you in advance

not sure what you mean by this, does the trainer not work using ERG mode?

Can the Core get the updated firmware from Wahoo? If so then it should work using virtual shifting that the Ride frame requires.

Hi Mike!

As far as the I’ve understood: If you enable ERG for a workout, the trainer doesn’t give any resistance at all, but it works just fine for regular zwifting.
I believe the firmware can be updated just fine, so it does sound like virtual shifting will work going by your statement.
Thank you for the response

you should probably confim with Wahoo support before making any purchases to be on the safe side… buyer beware!
