Virtual shifting on the KICKR v5 [Feb 2024]

Is there an estimate on when virtual shifting with play controllers will be available on the kickr v5. It works great on the v6 and I thought they would be released together.

Who knows, maybe soon, maybe never.
Could be a ploy to get you to upgrade.

In the meantime you can use QZ Domyos app to get virtual gearing.

Ask Wahoo when they’re going to release firmware for it

@GPLama ‘s last video on the subject said V4 and V5 firmware will be along shortly.

Will virtual shifting be available on other KICKR models?

We have reviewed the hardware and firmware capabilities of KICKR v5 (2020) and preceding KICKR versions. Unfortunately, these older models are unable to support the required protocols for Zwift Virtual Shifting and will not be receiving a future update for this functionality.

Still feel this is a cop out by wahoo as a way to shift new trainers.

All the tech reviewers say the core is a v4 on a simpler chassis, and the v5 should be one step along.

I’d really like to hear off wahoo what the difference between core and v6 vs v4 and v5

I bought play controllers on the premise of their original indication of the firmware coming to make bike swapping between 11 and 12 speed easier.

I am very disappointed in Wahoo for this decision. It just does make sense that the v5 cannot be upgraded, so I do not believe them. I am committed to Zwift and want to buy from companies that cooperate with Zwift so that I and other customers have a good experience. I too bought the controllers because virtual shifting is very important to me. If I have to buy a new trainer to get virtual shifting, I certainly won’t be buying it from wahoo not only for this incident, but also in fear of future incompatibility issues.

Same!
I had a V4 that stopped responding to gradient change, bought the V5 to replace it…. I won’t buy another premium tier product when a base model is better supported!

Wahoo would have known what the hardware and firmware was capable of doing when they made their original announcement, and haven’t had the decency to provide a full description of the alleged incompatibility, instead allowing a pr representative say bluntly it’s not coming now after all.

I was all in on wahoo, and currently wanting to change my Bolt for a new one as the battery is slowly fading…… but I’m having a good look at the options outside of wahoo now
