Updates taking forever

If you know that is your issue, then fix it. It isn’t Zwift’s problem that your system is slow and has a poor internet connection. If this was a wider issue, then sure it would be on Zwift to fix, but it literally took my system 30 seconds to install the update yesterday and it never crashes. :man_shrugging:

My internet connection is slow. Yesterday the update took two minutes on AppleTV, two minutes on iPhone and 30 minutes on Windows10 (all with the same wifi within one hour).

Running a fully updated, minimalist laptop - 8 series i5, 8GB RAM 256GB SSD (100Gb free). normally used for word processing and presentation.

last used 2 days ago (minor update quickly installed). Today, 2022-02-19 , the update stalled with 9 minutes remaining and 10 minutes later had not moved.

removal, reinstallation, no an update - 1 hour in and still not completed

I have 900 MB cable connection

As I was saying…

I struggle with updates as well. Why don’t they just allow you to ride and then update when you are finished. This is a major irritation. I have a fairly new laptop and it takes 30min plus to update … every now and then

My feeling is that, much like many software updates, the user should be allowed at least one deferral. This would allow the user to do their current ride without issue, and then do the update afterward, but before they start their next ride.

This seems an odd thread, in my experience with first iOS for a year and now PC for nearly a year, I’ve never had an update take anything close to an unacceptable length of time. Never needed to time it but I’d say 30s to 2 mins max.

Likewise. Been using Zwift for over 4 years now, and my only update issues were when my current laptop was new … and the issue was with the crappy hard drive HP installed (that created problems all over the system). Swapped out for an SSD no more issues.

IIRC the issue with not allowing you to ride until the update is done is the potential issues created by having riders on at the same time with different versions of the software running.

My computer downloads the updates in 15 - 30 secs but the installation can take a few minutes.
I just leave it and generally it’s running in 3-5 min.
Freq the Zwift screen gets a white haze and says “Zwift is not responding” but then it responds and finishes.
It hasn’t bothered me enough to mess with it.

I’m totally pissed on these update. I have been held up for last 30 minutes with today’s update.

Same here. My internet is slow. I know it is but I have no option to make it faster. At the end of my work day, I check for an update to make sure I can ride later, but good old Zwift faked me out today. Alllowed me to pick a ride and have it all logged in, but when time to ride it dumps itself into the bin. Having the simple option to defer the update until after a ride woulds be huge. Double benifit. I can update when I’m done and can run in it overnight when I’m not using the internet.

For all you warm hearted people that live in the first world and have it so good that it only takes you seconds to update saying the change is not needed, why do you post? Are you showing off? Don’t care that othere may have issues? Have your own agenda? Want to point out that since you have good things, nobody else’s problem really matters? I’d imagine you are the type of people that tell someone less fortunate to just do better. Wonderful human beings with great compasion /s.

I had all this time to write since all I can do is sit here and watch it update.

Welcome to the forums Gary,

Such a shame that your first post has to be one of such negativity, no counter comment saying how you really enjoy Zwift or highlighting the many good points.

In the same sense that you berate people who say the update takes seconds and ask why they post i would ask you this…

If you know you have slow internet speed why are you bemoaning the update time?

I don’t go onto a car forum moaning my car doesn’t do 0-60 in 3 seconds because i bought the small engine diesel version and then have a go at others who own a supercar.

Please put some context into your posts.

Ride On!

Same here. I first tried using my Windows 10 laptop but found out quickly that Zwift updates take ages and don´t allow me to start my ride. Then I switched to Apple TV - the same updates are much quicker and I am NOT forced to do them before my ride.

I also have a slow internet connection. The last Zwift update took about 3 minutes on my Apple TV and about 30 minutes on the Windows 10 laptop (both connected via Lan).

It would have been just about as quick on your laptop with a £15 upgrade.

Please share your knowledge - what is this mysterious £15 upgrade? And why is there no simple option to postpone the update till after the ride for Windows users?

A cheap SSD.

The update is forced because users running on different versions of the game client causes lots of weird problems.

I agree, I just want to jump on the bike and start Zwifting, I don’t want to have to wait for updates to download and install. Why can’t updates be scheduled e.g 1st Sunday if each month?
