Just joined Zwift and running it on a Lenovo T14 with Win10.
The download of the installer and the installation itself altogether lasted a couple of minutes.
But when I launch the software it starts to update and it’s taking ages.
Is it possible? What about updating from time to time the installer, so those who are new to the platform don’t have to download and install all the upgrades since the Zwift foundation?!?
I was so happy when I bought my new smart trainer so finally I could use it with Zwift and instead I have been here totally pissed off for an hour and half, waiting for this s**t to update and it’s still going on.
It shouldn’t be taking more than a few minutes on any system with an SSD. Something is very wrong there. One of my PCs is ancient but with an SSD the updates normally take a minute or so.
It won’t be downloading every update since the beginning - something is wrong.
If this is the first time you have downloaded and installed Zwift it does take a bit longer, but not hours. Is your wifi/network connection good and strong?
Once the update bare is full and it is stuck on the intro (picture screen, I don’t know what to call that window) you can X out on the top right. restart your pc and when you long back in all should be fine.
Oh, also when was the last time you used Storage Cleaner on your PC.
It’s on the main PC page and clears all unwanted trash n cookies etc.
Also I use the PC Disc Defagmation tool after each Windows Major update. It’s like taking all the paperwork off the floor and putting it in the right place in a filing cabinet.
The download of the software and installation went smooth.
The download and installation of the upgrade took 1h and 40’.
After that it took other 30’ to recognize my Tacx Fluo 2 smart trainer, and 25’ before it was able to read my speed. Eventually I was not able to complete the calibration of the trainer because it asked to me to maintain 38km/h speed for more than 45’.
As of today I am still not able to use my smart trainer on Zwift.
I have a Vodafone optical fiber 100 Mbps connection
Bluetooth.
Apparently after the first time it recognized my trainer (I don’t have a clue of how it eventually happened), it seems that it is working fine.
Hope next time I will have to use it, it will work
I agree, the initial zwift install software takes no time at all, and you actually only need to download that one, if the ‘update’ fails (and they do…frequently with zero notifications until hours after it’s failed) then you can restart the install at the local machine.
As it is, and I have a marginal internet connection it take several hours for the ‘update’ process to complete.
My complaint has always been how badly the update function is written, how little notification they give users about what’s actually going on and how even after you update it can still fail with Z114 error at line xxxx and you’re completely out countless hours of time waiting and waiting and waiting. Shame on Zwift for producing such garbage.
How is it that you can charge money yet produce such a crappy update facility? How is it that you can’t write and update function that can restart where it’s left off (most companies that update software manage to do this)? How is it that there’s so little notification to the user about what’s going on?
I have done five installs now, new installs, on two different hardware platforms and I still can’t get a product that runs without 1) application crashes, 2) OS crashes, or plain just won’t finish the install properly. Oh and also how is it that the Zwift Update function cannot disable sleep functions at the PC so the update isn’t interrupted? Why do I have to turn off monitor sleep / machine sleep in order to keep the update going? It failed an update / install because YOU didn’t turn the feature off before you started the update.
Perhaps if you wrote a decent update function none of these complaints would be out there. If I can’t get the install done I’m working on now I’m going to just quit Zwift and be done with it, it’s not worth the aggravation honestly.
Even with gigabit internet, the game would take about 30seconds to download, but there’s no way the server will be able to serve it to you at that speed. Then there’s the fact that it needs to unpack and install, which is largely a CPU bound operation assuming you’re using an SSD.
A matter of seconds to install a 3D game of several gigabytes in size is completely unrealistic.
