Tour de Zwift [January 2024]

You’re fun at parties aren’t you

If you’re having trouble seeing the first two rides of the TdZ in the Companion app, see this thread:

I just started the first Tour de Zwift stage of 2024 and was gutted to see there were no in-event ride positions. This has been a HUGE motivating factor for me in the Tour de Zwift, helping to make it my favourite event of the year over the past four years.

Please can @manda_F, @shooj someone at Zwift tell me if this was a glitch and if the in-event ride positions are turned on or off for all the rides this year?

I’m really hoping it’s a one-off. The long races at weekends and post-ride positions on Zwiftpower won’t cut it for me.

Hi @Paul_Rayner

Correct - the first two Stage 1 events did not have race results enabled. We’re offering official races this year, and were attempting to differentiate group rides vs. races.

We had lots of feedback regarding this during the event, so we’re updating future Stage 1 events to include placings.

Firstly a BIG WELL DONE to everyone at Zwift - I rode the very first Stage 1 ride going for the A event and despite very large numbers participating everything worked immaculately! Year on year everything has got more and more reliable.
Doing the event without knowing my ‘ position’ was interesting. I found it off putting to start, but still did a strong time ( for me anyway!) and by the end felt pleased with my effort. By far the biggest number of comments were about no position showing. Overall, I think the move to include positions will be a positive one.
I’ve suffered with Labyrinthitis for the last 3 months. The dizziness makes it too dangerous to contemplate going out for a ride. I’m using Zwift a lot therefore and am so grateful for how well it works. It was lovely to ride with so many others earlier!
Keep up the good work Zwift!

BIG wish, please, bring back “position”! Maybe optional, can turn on/off? Small wish, get rid of hat. I really enjoy Zwift! Keep up the good work!

Fantastic! Thank you Shuji and anyone else involved for responding so quickly to this; we couldn’t ask for more.

I love the TdZ; it’s what got me into group rides and racing but I know there’s always been this challenge of how to explain to new Zwifters that it’s an inclusive ride with everyone going at different paces. One extra way to help explain in future could be to put an explanation on-screen in the start pens, like we get in group workouts like the Zwift Academy.

Thanks again.

We are aware of an issue where certain members are experiencing crashes when riding in Category C during Stage 1 of the tour. We recommend selecting A,B, or D for stage 1 until the issue has been resolved. We will continue to post updates as available or you can check out the known issue log here.

I just finished the stage 1 TdZ ride and, no banner, no socks, didn’t crash but it shows as completed in my list.

Hey @Jason_J_SPM - I will send you a PM

Could it be that this was a Ride and not a Race? I was brand new to Zwift last year and loved the Tour de Zwift. I was under the impression that every stage and event were Races and that they all had Double Drafts. I could have surely used that in the initial A Race/Ride today!

Is it possible to select TdeZ routes as private meetups and have them count?

Last year none were races except in the minds of some participants. Pack dynamics have changed since then (more draft all the time) so double draft isn’t a thing anymore.

Hey @RHP  Meetups do not count towards the mission

Thanks for the quick answer. In one of the (real life) clubs I am a member of, there is interest in having the possibility of using meetups to satisfy TdeZ stage requirements. Maybe an idea for a future option?

Did anyone receive the discount code after completing stage 1? I have not.

Hey,

In order to complete the Tour de Zwift (and I believe also the Tour of Watopia), we currently HAVE to be available during at least one of the two final weeks.

So, anyone who will be traveling both weeks (say for skiing or Winter sun ) cannot complete the tour.

Would it be possible to add a catch up week sometime later, maybe early March?

Thanks!

@Tyler_Marrs I only just received the email with the discount link (15 hours after completing Stage 1), so it seems there’s just a delay.

Sadly, I am the person who would ask that question! However, this year I will try very diligently NOT to need the make-up week!

Stage 1 TdZ in the books!

Great work from the team settting the whole thing up… everything worked perfectly (for me anyway)

Was great to ride with so many other folks for the 1st time.

Looking forward to Stage 2!
