Eric Min himself teased a 500m Roubaix style velodrome, iirc the IRL one is 499m.
It might be on the same shelf as the Rowingā¦
Haute Route Dolomites 2017 Innsbruck-Venice stage 1 and stage 2 are perfect for the Innsbruck expansion. We rode straight past Kranebitten airport then Reith bei Seefeld and eventually back to Innsbruck.
I can hear the cries of protest already.
Personally Iād love to see the entire Haute Route Dolomites 2017 course made into one monstrous world, probably done in stages because there would be 700km+ to do.
All the way from Innsbruck to Venice (Mestre). It is something no other cycling applications would have.
Iāll be happy to test it, as I rode the real thing.
When āThe Gradeā routes are available to everyone, would it be possible to send all the Watopia robopacer groups along these routes for a week or two? This would help people looking to do badge hunting.
The Makuri robopacers would provide the flatter alternatives for those who want to ride flat routes.
The timer for the Mayan Mountain KOM segment on the Coastal Crown route runs if you ride the route in reverse.
I did the route today and obviously when I completed the route (which is at the end of the Mayan Mountain KOM segment) I turned around and rode back down (because free km).
I noticed that there was a segment timer on the way down (it must have restarted as I went back down past the top of the KOM segment because it was only up to about a minute).
The timer disappeared when I passed the segment start line at the bottom of the hill (donāt forget, I was riding in reverse at this point).
I turned around again and went back up the hill passing over the segment start just to make sure that this new faster time hadnāt given me the KOM jersey. It had not given me the jersey so it was just the timer that was running as I rode downhill from the end of the KOM to the start of the KOM.
Just noticed that the Mountain Massif chase race at 1700 BST (~15mins after time of posting) has changed route to Oh Hill No (~8km 300m climbing).
Unusually for a chase race, late join is active, as per Timās standard chase race setup.
It also runs with Category Enforcement these days, so we no longer have As Bs and Cs joining the D pen.
There should be an connection between Watopia and Makuri.
Even with London, Scotland and Yorkshire.
France with Paris
New York with Richmond
And Innsbruck with a new world like Austria/Swiss/Nothern Italy.
But I donāt know if thatās possible with Strava.
Thereās a feature request for that
Route today: Elevation Evaluation, then once the lap was done did Tides and Temples reverse (no route badge but just manually) to try the other climb. Then when I hit the bottom of the Epic KOM, went towards Downtown and did the Volcano Flat route! 40 miles and 2781 ft of gain. Great work, Zwift!
What is the reason I dont see any events with the new routes today and coming weekend?
Edit; found a couple, the routes arenāt visable at ZP
When will the new roads be available on websites like Zwiftmap for route planning?
I presume whenever Andi gets to work on importing it.
I see some of the details are visible in the public API, but not much.
WhatsOnZwift seems to have all of the new routes added at least.
Then itās just awaiting the details from Strava for surfaces.
Details from Strava for surfaces?
How does Strava interact with Zwift? Veloviewer, at least, has a Zwift map skin, but Strava seems to just accept the GPS coordinates from Zwift rides as they would any other ride.
Iāve yet to figure it out to be honest but Iām certainly no coder; looking through the github I still canāt figure it out, other than the data is coming through Strava; Iām not sure if heās got it set via polygon areas or what.
Itās like me still trying to figure out how people are getting accurate segment locations on elevation profiles, when the GPX data doesnāt seem to match; so Iām not sure if the GPX files themselves from Strava are super compressed to the route data that is being uploaded?
Long story short; thereās a lot of stuff lots of folks are doing, and I havenāt been able to crack it on my end⦠but I think the key is the fact that I donāt use Strava, and also of course donāt have an API key into Stravaā¦
Regardless; Zwiftmap is all on github, so welcome to view it yourself, maybe you can make more sense of it from what Iāve been able to figure out.
Iād argue though, other sources donāt really care or have interest in different surface types.
Personally, Iām using it to calculate time around routes for group rides and for my teamās TTT calculator. Obviously, a high impact on how fast routes are; thus having that data is basically required to get a rough estimate on those numbers.
I just wish I had a way to figure it out on my end, other than having to rely on Andiās numbers.
Just one question: Why is the ābailout roadā split into 2 KOM Segments? I feel it would be better to have one only that could be called the āItza Mountainside KOMā.
Just my thoughts.
I was also surprised by this, but maybe they just wanted to mix things up. For example, opportunists might want to take it easy on the 1st segment (Mayan Mountainside, IIRC) and then hammer the 2nd (Itza, I think).
Coastal Crown finishes at the first KOM which could be a reason
Problem is not many people use steering or have it. Yes, I have it on Zwift Play and Kickr Bike but even I donāt use it because itās more annoyance than it is a benefit. If it worked in the way we steer a normal bicycle then it might be reasonable but steering via button clicks is just really bad.
And you also need to not just have steering but you need collisions and braking. Either braking through some kind of brake lever style device or we need a proper fixed gear cycling trainer setup that doesnāt allow freewheeling.
On Dunc Gray Velodrome there isnāt a massive change in resistance as you go up the banking at either end (it is slight, but not huge) although you do accelerate coming off the banking so there itās important in the team-pursuit that the rider moving off the front doesnāt go full-bore off the turn or they will be catching the 3rd rider way too fast (up up up!!!).
Collisions, proper steering and braking are really necessary to help improve the pack dynamics in Zwift for racing - together they would slow things down and add more realism by not allowing someone to just punch maximum power all the time. Just as in sim car-racing there are collisions, so there should be in Zwift racing as well.
For realism and all. ![]()
Might be true but i hear from most that uses the elite sterzo that itās quite awkward itās not really like steering outside so I suspect the current button setup is better.
Rest of the things are good points and could be done or worked on to improve the experience.
At a basic level give riders a velodrome with different race formats would go down very well then look to improve the steering, collisions etc
