No trying to lean a trainer isn’t easy I nearly came off once trying it coming down ADZ
It’s very different from outside. It’s essentially just changing lanes, practically impossible to get a straight line through a chicane for example. Push buttons make more sense with how the mechanics work.
A velodrome could work on zwift, but it’d probably be better if they set it up as an event only world with specific physics.
The changes to the terrain in the Epic area made during The Grade update have resulted in a triangular hole visible from the alpe (photo approaching turn 20).
I enjoyed shifting on RGT, and there I just used the “A” and “D” keys, although several options were provided, including Sterzo support. There was also steering in a companion app, using phone tilt left or right. They even made a special mount to facilitate this.
It was a lane shift idea but there was still strategy on apexing corners to gain time, especially while descending. RGT did have corner braking, although I don’t think you could use apexing to increase cornering speed (just reduce distance).
But it was very useful for drafting vs attacking. On Zwift it’s harder to hold a wheel. On RGT team time trials could be very tight and organized. On Zwift they tend to be little blobs.
I’ve not tried Zwift steering, however, because they’ve chosen to make it more exclusive, less inclusive.
Which says the physics aren’t perfect in the first place.
Oh, it’s not. But any attempt to improve the overall physics gets shouted down by some subset of the user base.
How did the topic of The Grade end up here?
I want a smart bike like this.
Not ridden one of those in years
Power is power. It does NOT matter if you are seated or standing on your head.
The new climbs hooking in to the Epic Kom created possibilities for many great new climbs. What’s your point? You must be hell at parties. What a perpetual whiner.
I think there needs to be a better way to see previous Grade attempts/results. I did the Grade after a few weeks off the bike and the avg power I was able to hold was significantly lower than my previous FTP…that expected. But when I finished the effort, and seeing stars I missed the FTP result as my avatar rode past the indicator on the side of the road. Since the results was lower than a previous value, there was no way to “accept my new value”. So I can see what I averaged on the segment via strava, but there’s no easy way to see what FTP zwift gave me to manually update in the game.
Besides that though, I think it’s a decent FTP option…will do it again
From the first post in this thread:
So, you won’t see anything about your FTP for The Grade unless you set a new, and higher, FTP value. If you feel your FTP is too high, you should be able to manually reset it to something lower, though, and then you might see a new FTP value when passing through the arch.
I still think there should be a way to see your previous attempts and FTP scores, regardless of if it’s higher or lower. If you miss the scoreboard at the side of the road after an attempt as far as I can tell you SOL.
In group ride last night I saw this, around 30w below my FTP. I would guess that 167w figure was the average of my effort and no %age ‘FTP’ calculation has been applied to it?
Edit: Intervals had me at 172w for The Grade segment.
You are right that the history should be available, but right now you can contact support and they can provide you with your FTP history. They have the data, they just don’t show it to you.
I’d like to return to training and was thinking of starting by doing an FTP test on the grade, but I know the result will be lower than my current value. From what I’ve read above it seems like I won’t get a pop up notification, instead I’ll have to look for a value by the side of the road and make a note of that and enter it manually?
You can go into your workout settings and lower your FTP so that the new one detected will be higher.
Appreciate it
