Spin class on zwift Ride

Hello,

I’m in need of an upgrade to my current stationary bike setup. I like to use Les Mills for spin classes and Zwift for longer rides.
I’m keen that my new bike has better integration with Zwift, but don’t want to lose the capability to do a Spin class. Could the Zwift Ride be used for a spin class or is it Zwift riding only?

Thanks!

Hi Dave, welcome to the forums.

I’m sure you can make it work for spin class. My first thought would be to use Wahoo’s phone app to control the resistance of the trainer when doing a spin class, this might take some experimenting but I bet you could get pretty close to a good experience.

Second thought would be to run Zwift in the background on either a custom workout that you create, or a flat route like tempus fugit, then start the Les Mills class after you are already riding in Zwift. With the custom workout you should be able to use the Zwift companion app to increase and decrease resistance as the spin class calls for changes.

Hello @WDTWR welcome to Zwift forums.

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. TLDR: the Zwift Ride is not ideal to use outside of Zwift. We would not recommend it for the use you’re thinking of.

Hi Mike, thanks for the welcome and the thoughtful response.

Further googling tells me zwift does has a workout section (tabatas, hills, intervals etc), would you know if that’s something that works well with zwift ride?

Yes, obviously any Zwift training plan or workout will be compatible with the Zwift Ride. This would give you the best experience. There are even group workouts on the event calendar if your looking for that “classroom” we all suffer together experience. Also, group rides, races, and many other events to ride with others. Zwift is a very social place!

Zwift has workouts but they may not feel like a spin class. If you’re looking to continue to do spin classes via Peloton app, you might wish to look into a bridging app like QZ and purchasing Wahoo smart trainer (Kickr Core, V6 etc) or smart bike (Kickr Bike Shift or Kickr Bike). I believe the developer @Roberto_Viola is active on this forum and would be able to explain the details how and how well this might work.

Any of these Wahoo trainers or bikes would also work seamlessly with Zwift.

I’d probably take Shuji’s and avoid the Zwift Ride as he has the best inside knowledge on its compatibility.
