Zwifting on vacation

Hello. I am getting ready to go on vacation for a week to Big Bear and Vegas. I am currently on a customized training plan and would like to stay consistent. I’d like your advice on how to do this. Do I contact a LBS and ask if they have a bike/trainer I can borrow? Do stationary bikes connect to Zwift? Maybe I could go to a gym and do a workout on a stationary. I thank you for your ideas and I wish you all the best.

Chris

Some stationary bikes are compatible with Zwift, or can be made to work by pairing via the QZ app, but you can bet that the power numbers will be different from your trainer, so you will not know your FTP on the stationary bike unless you test on it, and even then it may not offer consistently reported power at different levels of resistance or cadence. If you race on Zwift you may also find yourself in a different category after using the stationary bike.

I agree with the suggestion to do some HR based training, and perhaps adjust the expectations for that week if it makes sense.

Hi @Wedgie_One I’m Oscar, from Zwift.
@A_Smith4 @Paul_Southworth thanks for sharing information.

I’d like to mention that you can use a stationary bike (indoor bike) if you want to make the one you’ll borrow, please check this article to see the list, now if you do not find the options listed, you’ll also need a power meter.
Something important to mention is that we recommend a good connection so your category does not get affected.

We know you’ll rock this, but if you still have questions, you can contact us.

Thank you, Paul. I’ll look into that.

Thank you, Oscar.

If you happen to have power pedals, you could just bring those and use them with any stationary bike. That’s probably the most portable and reliable solution if you want to keep using Zwift. Alternatively I guess you could just ask your trainer for some workouts based on perceived exertion or something different altogether.

Thank you, Anna. I have power pedals on order, but they won’t be here before I leave. I’ll ask about the PP option.

So, an update from Big Bear. There is one gym here that has a Nordic Trac setup (similar to a Peloton) (and there are several gyms here) but you need an iFit membership to get to advanced workouts. I plan to see if I can get a temporary membership and if iFit will communicate with Zwift so I can get my workouts. I really wish my pedals had arrived before I left, but alas…
Thank you again for the replies. I’ll update you when I know more.

Talk to @Roberto_Viola about using the bike with the QZ app (qzfitness.com) in order to bridge the connection to Zwift.

I will try to reach him. Thank you!

Let me know

Hi Roberto. Can you guide me on how to do this or guide me to resources on how to do it? Thank you!

Actually, I may be able to work this. Will this app connect iFit to Zwift or Training Peaks?

Hi , let’s chat by email roberto.viola83 at gmail.com
The app will connect directly to the bike (if it has bluetooth or wifi) and you can use ifit or zwift with QZ.
